The biggest issue with bunts is it makes it difficult to score multiple runs. Bunting in the 8th and 9th of a tie game isn't really an issue. Nor is bunting with the pitcher.

eh, giving up an out isn't cool

Except in certain situations...like the ones he mentioned

Renteria is an embarrassing, embarrassing man. he's the type of guy that misses high fives and falls down.

i know we have decided grimm is going to be good now, but why grimm instead of veras here?

Because every manager ever seems to decide that saving your closer for a potential save situation is better than putting him in for an inning where you lose when you give up a run. I've never understood it. Veras isn't exactly a wipeout reliever and now we're playing platoon advantage, so at least it's not like putting in the long reliever to "save the pen" that some managers pull.

i still don't think bunting increases the odds of scoring a single run

yeah...veras is just a decent reliever so I have no issue with it.

He's the closer. He's used when the Cubs get a lead. You'll see him in a couple weeks.

It's called playing the percentages. It's what good managers do.

depends on a lot of things. i obviously wouldn't advocate doing it with good hitters.

When it's Grilli v. Castillo, Schierholtz, Sweeney w/ a runner on first, it almost certainly does. Especially with the hindsight that the bunt got down.

And again, Castillo wasn't bunting from pitch one, he sacrificed once he got behind in the count.

Is there a hitter on the Cubs that stands out as good above the rest?

How would we know what good managers do? We are Cubs fans.
