Whoever from the AAC was pitching to the committee needs to learn to be much better at it next year.

I'm not seeing how BYU is ahead of Iowa unless the committee was considering the last 10 (even though they claim they don't anymore) I'm not going to complain too much though. They're lucky they're in with the way they finished the year.

NC State was so far off the radar I didn't even include them on the at-large potential list initially.

I thought byu wasn't being given proper due by people. Rpi of 31, top 25 SOS. they seemed clearly in to me.

This sucks. Not just being in Dayton but playing Tennessee. They're 13th on Kenpom, athletic as hell and play a slow, physical game. And they've been hot lately.

The winner of that game will be favored over 6 seed UMASS by Vegas.

As far as the NIT goes, there are a record 13 bids that will automatically be given to conference champions that didn't make the NCAAs (Green Bay, Louisiana Tech, Vermont, Iona, Belmont, Davidson, Georgia State, UC Irvine, Boston U, Robert Morris, Florida Gulf Coast, Utah Valley, High Point). And that doesn't even include SWAC champ Southern, who is ineligible.

That leave 19 bids for the rest of the slags that didn't make the "real" tourney. Going by my data, that would be:

SMU

Florida State

St. John's

Utah

Southern Miss

Illinois

Clemson

Minnesota

Maryland

Missouri

Arkansas

Marquette

Georgetown

Cal

West Virginia

LSU

Georgia

Indiana

Toledo

Didn't UI already have an agreement with the NIT in place if they didn't make the NCAA?

Yeah, they're in the NIT, just not sure where. They can't host at all though.

Last 4 out: Minnesota, Florida State, St. John's, SMU

Next four out: California, Illinois, Missouri, Georgia

Oh man, these interviews with the NIT 1 seed coaches. Larry Brown was in shock, Steve Lavin was saying everything he could to avoid saying how the NIT sucks.

EDIT: Brown had a press conference at the stadium where everyone had gathered to celebrate their NCAA bid. Brown: "I don't want to hear anyone complaining about where we are. It is what it is."

Lavin, on the other hand, was a phone interview, and all he had to say was "Well, my father was in the NIT back when it was a very respected tournament..."

Is that just based on NIT one and two seeds? Because I thought the NIT does some wacky things with seeding so that a 1 seed doesn't necessarily mean it was the closest to NCAAs

The NCAA manages both now, so since the NIT is seeded as well I'd imagine it's just a continuation of NCAA seeds.

Illinois will play on the road as far as they go, though, since their arena is being renovated.

Nah, last year on the Selection show (or post show) the committee chair listed Iowa as like the 4th or 5th team out but they were a 3 seed in the NIT.

PSU, Oregon State and Texas A&M to the CBI with...a bunch of other crap. IU probably refused to play anywhere but the NIT and NCAA.

IU declined a CBI invite apparently

As did Marquette after not getting invited to the NIT

You never see what it looks like when a team throws a selection show party and doesn't get in:

@JohnGasaway

And give the NCAA credit. To still be using the RPI in 2014 is a remarkable piece of inertia. It's not easy to be that inert.

They should have tried to get the games at Huff (is that still where the women play?). That would have been good to have it on campus and even with small crowds it could have gotten loud.
