Those 33 strikeouts in 109 PA in his cup of coffee did a lot to prove that.

And another 24 strikeouts in 117 PA last season, which were the only PA he had last season. I can more easily excuse an injury season for a player that really showed something special, but I see Vitters about the same as Szczur now, a serviceable filler that could break into the major league roster and fill a bench role possibly.

24 strikeouts in 117 PAs is knock now?

It doesn't point towards an exceptionally good hit tool.

I'm just busting your balls. I know he won't strike out at an above average rate.

I just think there's absolutely nothing worth getting excited about with him.

Both of his career HRs are on Youtube. Put them on a loop for a few hours and see how you feel then.

he certainly still has a solid chance at becoming an average to above average MLB player,

no he doesn't

Okay, if you say so, I guess you must be right. There's no way in hell you, or probably even most ML scouts/executives, can make that statement with any certainty whatsoever.

Have you ever had a wrong opinion?

Then you must *love* his batting eye. 15 walks in those 117 PAs.

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was playing on spotify as I watched that clip. It synced perfectly.

I can't make the statement I made with certainty yet you can make the statement you made with certainty?

Yes, I've had many incorrect first impression opinions about players. Not as many after 7 years of unimpressive nothingness.

I'm struggling to think of teams that would dismiss Olt or Vitters unless you're just taking the stance that teams with good players just don't like any prospects. I know I'm personally not basing their value on our major league roster.

No, basically my point is. No team with good players would give them legitimate chances to be everyday or probably even platoon players. Which I believe would prevent people from thinking they are the 10th and 15th best prospect in a good minor league system. They both would be written off as 4A players in an organization with a good ML team. Those are not top 15 type talents.

I'd imagine either one would be claimed by most teams if DFAd tomorrow

I don't get what that has to do with it. Considering the garbage that gets picked up by every team from time to time that isn't a statement about their value as prospects.

An organization who picked them up wouldn't be writing them off as AAAA players

Haven't the Cubs picked up a dozen or so such players in the last few years? They do it for the need of a body, not actually belief in a prospect.

Teams are dumping one body for another because of a need for a body? This isn't signing Lars Anderson to stand at first bar in Iowa for 6 months

If Vitters wasn't a first round pick he wouldn't be in the discussion, not even close. He's often injured, has no position, hasn't hit for power, and has been in the system for seven years. Like goony I never liked him, but people kept saying mono held his numbers down in HS. He gets HBP all the time, already had a wrist injury and various ankle and leg strains. My bet is he gets hurt this year after showing decent performance in AAA and we're having this same conversation again next year.0

The fact that he was a first-round pick isn't irrelevant.

It's irrelevant to me. Especially after 7 years in the system. How long dose he get to live on his pedigree?

Until the physical tools and abilities that made him a first-round pick disappear.

Meanwhile, he's actually performed really well on the field the last two years outside of a very small MLB sample.

plz look up how many prospects in the system had 100+ AB's and a higher ISO than Vitters.

(hint - not many)

(it was three)

(Two were Baez and Bryant)

I wouldn't say he hasn't hit for power.

Well, that's why people are voting for him as the 19th best prospect.

I don't recall all of Vitters injuries. He doesn't jump in my memory as a guy who's missed a ton of time and his G/PA by year is 65/291, 120/384, 91/348, 129/488, 146/561, 33/117. Am I missing something really big here? The first year there was short season ball so it looks like two shortened seasons by my estimation. What are all the injury circumstances?

that says more about the system Han it does about Vitters.

You mean the system that is widely regarded as top 2-3 in baseball largely on its power hitting talents?
