it seems weird to me that Almora bats & throws right-handed, but writes lefty

I did the same thing, mostly came down to whoever showed me how to do either. I'm a natural lefty, so I learned to write that way in school. Almost everything else, people just showed me how to do it righty, so I learned it righty.

The joys of being ambidextrous. I'm the same way. Write left, throw/bat right. I can swing a racket with either hand. My left is more dominant, but my right has more power.

This is all useless information.

I golf, shoot pool and hit in softball LH. I was RH hitter in baseball though I did mess around with being a SH. Throw right, write right. I am right handed but not as dominant as most I guess

Same here. Disappointed too since when I do swing and actually make contact LH I have a lot more power. I can throw a football a decent distance with a spiral LH also, so I'm pretty sure that is what I was supposed to be.

What's the biggest thing (if any) you've changed about your game since you were drafted by the Cubs? -- Mark (Chicago)

AA: My plate discipline, for sure. In high school you can get away with a lot of stuff. You can swing at anything and it will work out for you. Here it changes a lot. So plate discipline for sure.

It may be cross (or mixed) dominance rather than true ambidexterity. Truly ambidextrous people can use either hand for just about anything with equal ease and efficacy, almost regardless of conditioning. Cross dominance is slightly more common.

That said, it's fascinating to see the different permutations cross dominance takes. I write/draw with my left hand (which sucks), throw overhand with my left, but underhanded with my right. If I throw a punch, my right is the dominant. I can switch hit with ease in baseball, but I'm a wreck if I try to play golf left handed. It's weird how such similar actions can be dominated by different sides.

Same way for Andre Dawson.

Let's hope he shares more with Dawson than which way he bats, throws, and writes.

I can talk on the phone both left-handed and right-handed. Boom.

bah.

I type equally well with both hands.

I can only smile with one side of my face is that weird?

I totally have a weak side of my face, and I didn't notice it until a few years ago. It makes my smile look creepy, which a lot about the last decade or so of my social life.

This would be solid gold material for anyone writing a book about NSBB.

Yes, this fascinating stuff is going down in my "writer's journal."
