This might be the worst article I have ever read on Jay Cutler

http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/jon-greenberg/post/_/id/398/time-for-cutler-to-re-brand-himself-a-winner

Who is this guy? I don't really read anything ESPN but this guy sounds like he should write for TMZ.

But it hasn't been easy for him. Aside from his weekly in-season paid appearance on "The Waddle & Silvy Show," there is no vehicle to get to know Cutler, aside from his performance and his oft-critiqued body language. There is a distance between the city and Cutler. Maybe this is the year that divide is closed.

What the hell does this even mean? That's more than you get from just about anybody else.

In fact, on the list of Chicago athletes whose personalities I'm most familiar with, I'm pretty sure Jay is #1.

If only he'd be in 1000 commercials and host SNL, maybe we could get to know him.

Unless you count Rose's complete lack of personality.

Jon Greenberg is a columnist who thinks he's about 10x more clever than he actually is.

He also seems to think he is bigger than he actually is. I barely heard of him, except for Boers and Bernstein ripping him a new one, sometime last season.

This is the one that got me...

If Cutler wanted to, he could own Chicago. A good-looking, tough quarterback for the Chicago Bears: It should be easy.

How does he figure? The only way Cutler could even begin to own Chicago is if he brought a SB back to the city, in which case many fans would play the "won in spite of him" card while others would continue to obsess over what they perceive to be deficiencies... personality, on-field, or otherwise (see: Manning, Eli).

After all, it's totally Cutler's fault that droves of Bears fans still think Josh [expletive] McCown is a more talented QB.

It doesn't take an NFL expert to see that the deck is clearly stacked against Jay and has been since he arrived here. BECAUSE APATHY.

I really don't think you will see much of a "won in spite of him" crowd if they win one with Jay. Especially since the only chance they have to win one is if he has an amazing season.

I doubt that. And if anyone would think t hey won in spite of him, it'd be the same ones obsessing over the other dumb stuff.

Also, Eli sucks and completely deserves all criticism.

well training camp starts. Not sure why the excitement seems so low.

I'm pumped. Although the gap between the Blackhawks and the Bears wasn't quite as bad as past years, since there's reasons to pay some attention to the Cubs for once.

I'm already dreading having to defend Jay from unfair criticism for another season, but it is what it is.

Because it's training camp?

Yeah, but the start of camp usually seems more exciting just because football, especially with another dreadful Cubs season. Maybe that's just a made up memory though.

To me it always felt like spring training, where it's exciting when everyone shows up, and then very quickly it's just fluff pieces and OMG WHEN WILL THE SEASON START.

Training camp for me: first few days are usually fun. Then a lot of blah. I'll watch a couple of the preseason games as a distraction. I usually can't get them except online anyway, unless it's on DVR which sucks.

yep, probably same for most.

I like watching them all carrying giant flatscreens to their dorm rooms. Then I'll read the first 1-2 fluff pieces (remember the infamous John Clayton article talking about the art that was watching the Bears offense with Rex to Hester pre-2007, a season Grossman had the starting job for 3 games before being replaced?). Then it gets boring, then I get really excited for the first preseason game, make time to watch it and then get bored after the first 2 series. Then I get excited for the 3rd preseason game, because its the big one, before finally it's week 1.
