They can't release him. Would be a 12.5Mil dead cap hit. Can't restructure him because he won't agree to it. Can't trade him because nobody wants to pay him the rest of his 5 year/48Mil contract (4 years left) AND give up a 3rd round pick.

Apparently he talked with Chip Kelly and all is well now.

After speaking with Kelly, Jackson called several teammates to tell them he is staying with the Eagles, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer. Kelly reportedly told Jackson to work hard and be ready for training camp.

The latest reports are indicative of either a change of heart from the Eagles' brass or an attempt to regain leverage in trade talks.

That's interesting. Allen possibly?

Could there be something in the works regarding DeSean Jackson?

Dear god, that would be ridiculous. What are they saying Jackson would cost? I doubt whatever the assets it would take would be worth it from the Bears perspective.

Rumor is they're asking for a 3rd and no one is willing to pay that price, so might be able to be had for less or just cash if he really is released at the meetings as is anticipated.

His contract isn't guaranteed this year or any remaining year on the deal, and he'd only have a 6.25 mil cap hit (3 yrs of prorated bonus and his guaranteed workout bonus), versus 12.5 if he actually plays.

No matter what cubbievirus might think about Emery's drafting abilities, he's shown he can do some things in free agency.
Posted

DE - Jared Allen, Lamarr Houston, Willie Young

DT - Jeremiah Ratliff, Stephen Paea, Nate Collins, Israel Idonije

LB - Lance Briggs, DJ Williams, Jonathan Bostic, Shea McClellen, Khaseem Greene

CB - Charles Tillman, Tim Jennings, Kelvin Hayden, Isaiah Frey

S - Ryan Mundy, MD Jennings, Chris Conte, Craig Steltz

Still need big help at safety but that's some overhaul without even getting to the draft.

Houston can move inside too, right?

After years of Angelo punting on draft picks and lamenting multi-year rebuilds of the lines, Emery has basically "fixed" the O-Line in one off-season, and is close to doing the same with the D-Line in the next. Draft a starting DT and your D-Line is in WAAAY better shape heading into next season

Yup the Raiders played him inside often. Good point I wouldnt be surprised if he was the 3 technique when the Bears are playing traditional 4-3

Yup, now the pressure comes from being able to replace players over the next couple of seasons through the draft. I don't think Emery really wanted to build his defense (or any part of his team) through FA, but the circumstances dictated it. Amazingly we havent lost any draft picks in rebuilding both sides of the ball other than Marshall.

I mean, sure, but Angelo "fixed" the o-line as well at one point. The problem is he thought it was fixed for good when he did that and it broke in a hurry. The Bears still need to keep drafting offensive linemen early.

Yep, but by "fixing" things in free agency, he'll have more flexibility in the draft to do just that instead of being forced to draft defense.
