I said this at PSD...but these are the types of moves (along with Kottaras and Wright) that this FO is capable of making on the margins that you just wish were complimentary to a good roster.

They are really good at finding values like this.

Yeah, it's nice to find the marginal upgrade when possible, but it won't really matter much until the core is upgraded substantially.

I wonder how much real research goes into a move like this.

Do they watch a bunch of video and do a ton of meticulous research, or is pulling up his fangraphs page enough? lol

@Cubs Let's do this! Excited about my new city, and most of all the fans! I've always loved this city and feel blessed to call it home!

And we have a new hot wife for Paul Sullivan to creepily reference over and over

Agreed. But I feel the core could get really good in a hurry. Granted, it would require a ton of luck. But Rizzo, Castro, and Olt turning it around. Baez meeting those projections. Bryant. Getting Tanaka or Choo would help a ton too.

I feel like this offseasons moves are much better than last years, so far. I feel like they actually have a purpose.

he had an 0-42 stretch this past season, nearly avoiding the all-time record of 46 consecutive hitless AB, set by Eugenio Velez

Depends on how they view Sweeney. My guess is that don't feel he has to have a handcuff, but they probably have similar feelings about Lake so I could see the 5th OF going either way.

Guttierez plz

LF - Lake

CF - Sweeney/Guttierez

RF - Schierholtz/Ruggiano

I really like this and don't quite understand the marlins motivation

Brian Bogusevic

2014 Contract Status: Pre-Arb Eligible

Justin Ruggiano

2014 Contract Status: 1st-Year Arb Eligible

They also have 4 promising OF as listed in the article on the 1st page, and 3 of those 4 are RH, so it seems like a decent swap for need on both ends.

Yeah, I can understand their reasoning.

It seems like the Marlins got boner over the thought of saving $1m and jumped on it. Bogusevic seems like the kind of guy you can get off the waiver wire at any time.

Isn't Gutierrez a bad CF?

in 2009, Gutierrez was the best CF in the history of UZR; he was awesome in 2011 also, but has had just 450 innings of statistically poor CF play in the two seasons since
