Schiano would be what, the 7th best coach in the conference? Maybe worse? I'm not really impressed by him winning 8 games a year in the last days of a horrific Big East. I doubt he'll crater the program, but he's a guy that who's questionable to outlast his first recruiting class.

He also feasted on some absolutely putrid OOC opponents. We're not talking your typical bad BCS conference teams or even MAC. We're talking Howard, Texas Southern, Norfolk State, N Carolina Central, etc.

They would give him lots of time. And 6 Big Ten coaches are better? I can see Meyer and Dantonio (only based on his recent season) but no way id put Kill Pelini Ferentz as definately better. The jury is out on the wisconsin guy and hes definately better than Fitz and hoke and the rest of the big ten coaches are pretty much garbage.

Yes, the 6 you mentioned have achieved more than Schiano. You can make an argument for Fitz, Hoke, and with Wilson at least there's a scheme to believe in. Hiring Schiano is signing up for the Glen Mason zone, or at least the Glen Mason zone as it exists for a big program like Penn State. He'll win his 8 games and never challenge for a conference title and bounce between the Cap One, Outback, and Gator Bowl each year. That's not bad by any stretch, but Penn State can aspire for more, and that's why he's definitely not a guy who would be around 10-15 years. Although admittedly part of that is that no one coaches at one place for 15 years. There's currently 4 coaches with that distinction.

there are probably 15-20 additional guys primed to hit that 10 year mark at least.

As it stands now, we'll start next season with 9 guys with 10 full years on the job: Beamer, Blakeney(Troy), Stoops, Ferentz, Pinkel, Patterson, Richt, Riley, and O'Leary. If they make it to the end of next season, Spurrier, Whittingham(Utah), Mendenhall, and Solich(Ohio) will join them.

First off Bill Synder needs to count. Then Fitzgerald, Gundy, and les miles have either done 10 years or imminently will. In Fitz case its a couple years off but the point is guys do have long runs still. My point was PSU is looking for a long term coach and Schiano wont leave for another job (cause je will never get a better one).

That's the worst reason ever to hire him. If that's the criteria, go poach the Illinois coach, cuz heck, he'll never leave!

Sure, Miles and Gundy would be in the same group as Spurrier, et al, the link I was using was separating by calendar year so they got pushed out as January hires.

Anyway, I think the point is pretty well illustrated that even if none of them leave/retire/get fired, after next year only ~10% of coaches will have 10+ years at their school and only 3% have 15+.

This is not justification for hiring, but merely support for my thought that Schiano would be a long term head coach for PSU. I think people are underestimating how tough it is to make Rutgers a decent program from what it was prior to Schiano. I think hed be a great coach for PSU. Hes obviously not cut-out for couching professionals but hes proven he can get a lot out of college players and I think hed do great at PSU./

PSU should be aspiring to more than ten years of 7-8 win seasons

Is this the Lane Kiffin effect on Alabama's offense?

It would appear Oklahoma played just a touch too well in the first half and have awoken the beast

Just a horrible sequence for the Alabama defense after they got Oklahoma to 2nd and very long/3rd and long.

AJ McCarron has shown no interest in checking down this half.

Converting 1st and 30 is always fun.

And Alabama scores on a drive with 4 runs and a dump off to a running back. Don't see why they were trying to have McCarron do so much more the previous two drives.
