The names I've heard are Jimbo Fisher, Malzahn, Harbaugh, and Urban Meyer. With Fisher being the favorite based on being the most likely to be picked and accept the job. Harbaugh might be the 1st choice based on preference and might be offered $8 million per.

However it goes I don't think we will have an announcement till January unless Meyer becomes the 1st choice.

Is Texas really that much of a better job than FSU or OSU? I am not trying to have a big comparison, I would just think that the money and ability to compete are similar to Texas

Yes on both. Not by much in either case, but somewhat better overall compared to those two options.

I was kinda shocked to learn that in Mack Brown's tenure at Texas, the Longhorns only won 2 Big XII titles and only went to 3 BCS bowl games.

And the list of names that people are floating for that job are hilarious. Urban? Tomlin? Carroll? That's hilarious

I dont think there is any reason to leave FSU or OSU for Texas. Leverage for a richer extension maybe, but actually leave? And what about Urban Meyer's contract to his daughter? Can he opt out of that.

Obviously that list of names including Pete, Tomlin, Harbaugh etc is just somebody listing the top coaches. None of those guys will take the Texas job.

They will get Patterson or maybe Briles or Mora Jr somebody like that.

If I were them, I'd throw the kitchen sink at Briles after all these high-voltage potential hires don't pan out. Seems like he'd be a natural at UT.

Given their resources, that's inexcusable.

Yeah, Meyer is 24-1 at OSU (and that's not likely to get much worse, as the big ten isn't terribly tough right now), is originally from Toledo and doesn't even have to leave his state to recruit if he doesn't want to. What's the incentive to go to Texas?

Texas was the job Meyer wanted after Florida more so that OSU. But I agree the job is not that much better. However I would say that Texas is more than a few steps better than FSU from an entire Athletic Dept standpoint. Financially they are much better off. The reason Fisher has been considered a favorite is that he is supposedly very unhappy with the university president. Not to mention he would get a very nice raise.

Meyer wanted the Texas job in the same way he wanted the ND job.

I definitely think Fisher and Malzahn are the most likely of those listed above. Do UT folks think Briles isn't big time enough?

Meanwhile Pat Haden gets table scraps and is nice enough to make sure the program he poaches from ends up upgrading

Edit: [expletive] ND sleeper agents

It's almost like the time he and sleeping beauty finally left the NBC broadcast booth for ND games and we landed huge upgrades.

I have no problem with Briles. I think they just want someone who has a little more history in winning and carrying a major program. I think he is the next guy on that list and is really the same as Malzahn.

Jimbo and Barron have kissed and made up (or at least learned to tolerate each other), but we can't match what Texas can offer in two areas:

1. Cash.

2. A children's hospital for his son.

In every other category, we're comparable. In some ways, it's even better in Tallahassee since Jimbo isn't very media-friendly - and interacting regularly with the LHN would be a prerequisite for taking that position.

Raymond James Stadium will host the 2017 college football national championship game. Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan has a highly scientific prediction that it'll be the single greatest thing that's ever happened to Tampa's economy:

Hagan said he expects the championship to be an economic boon to Tampa "in the range" of the Super Bowl, bringing somewhere between $250 million and $350 million to the area, along with approximately 1,700 to 1,800 full-time jobs.

Some good news for Notre Dame for once. They hired Alabama's former recruiting director, who was most recently at Tennessee. Looks like Notre Dame now has someone with experience in bringing in 50 person classes.

Edit: Whoops, an old article. The hire was made back in June.

Future scheduling tidbits coming out today:

Florida will play Michigan at AT&T Stadium in 2017. It'll be the farthest Florida has traveled for a regular-season game since 1991.

Notre Dame and Purdue will play at Lucas Oil Sept. 13 next season, then not again until 2020. With Purdue now off the schedule in 2015, ND will now have 12 games scheduled in both seasons, which means maybe we'll get the schedule announced sometime before August.

Purdue scheduled a home and home with Virginia Tech - West Lafayette in 2015, Blacksburg in 2023 - and will soon finalize a home and home with Missouri - Columbia in 2017, West Lafayette in 2018.

Michigan pushes its game with Ball State from 2016 to 2020 (interesting only to me).

Being reported that Lovie Smith interviewed for the Texas job.

Not being reported by any Texas sites. Actually I think you meant Texans.

No, the Texas sites are still reporting on Saban's imminent hiring.

Yep. With Harbaugh and Jimbo as Co-OC's.

Tosh Luopi is recruiting players to USC while still being under contract with Washington.

And now Tosh Luopi (still with Washington) is under investigation for paying for a recruit's tutoring and online classes: http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/10163154/washington-huskies-looking-recruiting-allegations-coach-tosh-lupoi

Guess Sarkisian won't want to bring him over to USC now.
