But they were wrong, very wrong on the 3 MLB players involved. Headley bounced back, Stewart never took off, and Soto went in the tank. Sigh.

Sorry. But I'm going to need more than just what ABTY says -- who I've learned is right sometimes and not so right a lot of other times -- to be doing a sigh over our front office being very wrong on three MLB players when this might all just be fantasy.

Are you offering the same disbelief when he talks about moves we were ready to make that sound amazing. Our front office is badass, but they're capable of horrifying mistakes too.

Can't speak for anyone else, but yes, I offer the same disbelief. The dude's hit rate isn't amazing enough for me to really put enough stock into it to care.

McCann is going to get 100M?

Wow. That just seems insane.

Huh? From whom? Where are you seeing this? He's probably more in the 55-75 range (depending on years).

I was watching MLB Tonight and they said execs were expecting him to get $90-100 over 6 years.

Does he really offer anything other than plus power from the left side? He's always banged up it seems to.

What Beachy stuff is that?

He's an interesting target, but he's also had TJS and then another elbow surgery. He's the type of 2nd piece that would be a smart addition in a Samardzija deal, certainly not by himself or with other value thrown in on the Cubs' side.

We're not playing for 2014 or even 2015. 2016... Maybe but the sweets spot window is 2016-2019. Samardzija only helps us there with a trade or extension. I love Beachy. Yes he's got Prioritis knock on Wood, but to me he's worth it.

I can respect your excitement, but Shark is controlled through 2015 and Beachy is controlled through 2016. Doesn't really seem to be that great of a difference for where we are at, especially when you consider the injuries.

I'm all for trading Shark, but it wouldn't be in a package where Beachy is the top dog.

This doesn't make sense to me.

yea that sounds like an atrocious deal for the cubs.

But think of the return we could get on Beachy if he bounces back

You don't want to trade an actual asset, for a maybe asset. Trade a couple of lower maybes for a higher maybe.

ABTY.... Yuck to almost all of this

-Cubs were in deep on Vargas- wouldn't go 4 years...

-Going hard after power bats- Cruz, Reynolds, Hart, Morales (LF), Morse, McLouth...

-Heard more than once that the team may be making a 'Anibal' type move on Ervin Santana- unlikely to happen as Santana wants to be in AL...

Large gauge smack needle, please. Although any of those power bats will net some AA level pitcher at the trade deadline. Wooooo!

I like Cruz, but if they want a power bat for the OF, couldn't they just have kept Soriano for cheaper? Paying him and whoever they would sign. Corey Black wasn't a "must have" prospect.

No problem with offering Vargas as long as the payroll isn't diving to 85 million.

Cruz could actually be an interesting option depending on how much the QO and his suspension kills his market. Odds are that signing him falls under "okay" at best though. Same goes with Morales.

Morse and Reynolds as RH platoon bats is a worthwhile idea if they come cheap(and they should).

McLouth would be a good platoon corner OF, but we've got two of those already.

Absolutely no interest whatsoever in Santana.

He just reports what he hears. He never says it's 100% truth, per se. They're mostly rumors to him as far as I know, he's just in a position where the rumors he hears have more clout and he passes them along. He's not really trying to break the next big signing or trade, just being a right neighborly insider.
