I don't think dealing for Scherzer or Price is the best route to take, but I'd far prefer Scherzer to Price if you are going to dump a bunch of prospects for a SP like that.

This. I think this winter is too soon for the Cubs to move and I would not be surprised to see the Tigers keep Scherzer for a run next year and settle for the comp. They went all in when they signed Fielder.

Cheap route offseason I'm prepared for: Add Corey Hart and Chris Young to OF, re-sign Scott Baker, add Josh Johnson, and one of O'Flaherty or Boone Logan. Trade Shark to Nats for package including Giolito and Brian Goodwin. Head into season once again with "if everything goes right, then maybe" attitude.

That sounds like another awful team.

That's the most likely result in just about any scenario.

But the bright side is that we get another high draft choice.

The Dodgers reportedly offered Kershaw a contract that could have been worth $300m+ last offseason with incentives. Yeesh

Pedro railed on the Dodgers last night for how they handled Kershaw this postseason, saying that we shouldn't be surprised to see him with arm problems next season. How many reminders of Wood and Prior are allowed in one week?

He's not wrong, they rode the [expletive] out of him this offseason

I don't see anything different from the last couple seasons. He threw 41 less pitches than he did the last two and 38 more than 2010. 104 pitches per game this year after 105, 105 and 106 the last three years.

The only difference is the four postseason starts.

I was super drunk last night, meant to type postseason not offseason. Starting him on 3 days rest with a 2-1 lead in a series just so they can close out the series victory at home is bad form. If they want to use him because he's capable of shutting down the opposing team to ensure the best chance for a victory, they should have confidence he can do it on the road if he absolutely has to... oh wait that's exactly what he did the first game of the series. They were going up against friggin' Freddy Garcia, they didn't need to throw Kershaw out there to close them out. And if they lost, it's not like he's gonna huff dong on the road when he completely stymied them earlier in the series. Throwing Kershaw out there on 3 days rest was a very self-centered thing for the Dodgers to do, epsecially considering he was coming off a game in which he threw 124 pitches.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Athletics could consider trading Brett Anderson this offseason.

The club has an $8 million option on Anderson for 2014 that they'll pick up, but the southpaw could be dealt after that. Slusser says that there are "numerous" teams interested in Anderson, particularly the Blue Jays, who have expressed interest in him for two years and scouted the lefty at the end of the season. Anderson posted a 6.04 ERA over another injury-plagued 2013 campaign.

Given his propensity for injury I'd imagine he'd come relatively cheap, and while he's a pretty good starter when healthy he has too much trouble staying that way, so he could probably be a fairly useful bullpen arm to limit his injuries... though $8 million for a bullpen arm is a tough pill to swallow, and I don't see Beane eating salary in a trade.

I'd still be worried about his injury history but I do like Anderson.

I wanted him last offseason. We've got pitching depth, in case he gets hurt. Lots of upside if you can get a full season out of him.

I'm not even sure what the A's are going to be looking for this offseason. The best prospect they can get? a 2B? an OF upgrade?
Posted
Barney(who Beane supposedly likes) and Vogelbach for Anderson? Too much or too little? Hard to gauge Anderson's value obviously. But I wouldn't give up Alcantara straight up for him. If they prefer Candelario to Vogelbach, I guess I'd be OK with it.

Lake and Hendricks for Anderson and Reddick.

I like you.

I like that a lot. Reddick is having wrist surgery this offseason though, for those that may not know.
