Everybody in SEC country or with a team in it always thinks their team has a chance to win the olypics, even when they know it's a joke and they disguise it as one.

I was just going to ignore this, but let there be no doubt: I think Carolina is one of the 3 or 4 worst-run franchises in the league. They're a terrible football team, with a terrible coach, and a terrible QB who's athletic and exciting enough to distract most observers from the fact that he's won five [expletive] games in three years that came before playoff elimination. There's no joke involved. You won't find anyone that has a lower opinion of that team and that franchise than I do (insert 'no one cares about that team' crack here).

So, the Falcons suck

Pretty good news for some other teams that have seen their strong start come back down to earth (ehem....bears...ehem)

I don't understand this sentence. What are the olypics?

It's a southern thing going back to losing the Civil War. Whether they will admit it or not, southerners are wracked with a loser mentality. So anything that makes them feel better about themselves they embrace 100%. It's why it's the one region of the country that in reality probably shouldn't have much regional pride yet has the most regional pride.

Agree with this but I would substitute inferiority complex, especially when you're talking about those below the poverty line. As with everywhere else, the South is becoming homogenized and hopefully clinging to this "us against the world" mentality dies out of existence.

All that said, Atlanta can burn again for all I care. A bunch of fair weather, LA of the South poser wannabes.

I feel pretty safe saying that the NFC wild cards are coming out of the North and West. Again.

Yeah it's looking like SF/Seattle loser and then whoever finishes better between the Lions and Bears with the Lions currently holding the tiebreaker.

Of course it's still really early and teams like the Redskins (ok maybe not), Vikings, Falcons, Eagles and heck even the Rams or Cardinals could play themselves back into a spot.

So does Mike Smith get fired? Falcons are going into their bye week

I don't see what good that would do.

Smith's system is installed, anyone taking over couldn't make major changes until next offseason anyway.

The Bears and Lions are so much better than any of those other teams mentioned. If Chicago kept Cutler from getting his ass kicked every time he dropped back they are as good as anyone.

You're conceding to GB already? Smh.

Wins at home against the Redskins and a Calvin-less Lions have not rendered me afraid of them... yet. Of course if we draw off the past couple years, it's a bit different feeling. That said, we ARE winning one of our two games with them this year.

ugh Dom Raiola's such an embarrassment, i can't wait until the day the Lions decide to move on (hopefully soon)

Why isn't the league suspending him if he said what's being claimed? It's hate speech.

It's hard not to feel that way when they've beaten us what 7 times in a row?

Brees had never won in Soldier Field.

Well obviously and the Lions had never won in Washington or whatever. We've just been owned by the Packers recently. I probably feel it more than most because I live up here and most of the people I interact with on a daily basis are Packer fans. I have zero confidence we will beat them home or away this year. I pray to God we win both.

Hahaha, its funny, I didn't consciously concede the divison to GB, I'm just used to assuming they are in first place and winning the division so I relexively put them there. Yeah I guess they could continue to struggle, especially with their latest round of injuries

Didn't realize Julio Jones got hurt last night. He might be out for the season.

Is, according to multiple reports. Can't imagine they recover and make the playoffs now.

Falcons seem done for the season. Feel bad for Gonzalez, since he thought he was coming back for another shot in the playoffs.

I could certainly see Smith getting fired at the end of the season. I would be pretty surprised to see it happen before then, though. An off-season to focus on the two lines and get healthy could fix a lot of the issues, though.

That's crazy to me. He could not win another game this year and still be way over .500 with 4 playoff appearances. This is the first bad year. I'm not sure about the storyline around him, but that sort of quick hook would seem odd.

True, and they should have.
