The best scenario is a S&T where they accept around Boozer, and have their pick of assets (MDJ, Mirotic, Snell, Smith, 16 pick, 19 pick, 49 pick, Sact pick, Cle Swap, 2 second rounders from Deng trade, and our own first and second for the next 5 years). There's something there to work with. But anyways, if it's a S&T we retain our MLE (about 5M), otherwise, if we're under the cap, we only have the room MLE which is only about 2.7 per for two years.

Forgot we could only use the full MLE if were over the cap. What's the reasoning for that rule? So in that case, we would have to wait until next year (when we can use the full MLE) to bring Mirotic over.

You would think the Knicks would want to get assets back for losing Melo, but they may just hold out hope that by not doing so he will just resign with them. Also, not sure how willing I would be to include Mirotic.

We are contending for a title now! I think we should add melo if possible. That said he's a bad contract eventually. If we are talkin. About freeing up as much money as we are and moving assets to do it, aren't there other guys out there? Maybe not as good as melo but younger and less of a ball stopper.

This Bulls team is really amazing. They have no one who can get his own shot, except maybe Augustine and Boozer when he feels like it, yet they just keep on trucking.

Ball movement is outstanding. No one in the league does that better.

The ball movement has been fantastic. And when 3 guys went to the floor scrambling for the ball, it was amazing how they somehow managed to get to every guy who wanted to shoot to challenge it.

The only true untouchables for Melo are Noah and Rose. Butler and Taj you really wanna hold onto as they round out your top 5, but they're available if they are okay taking a lot less overall- but not sure why they would be.

Even if we got Melo nest year doesn't really matter as it's another Rose recover year. I'm honestly playing for 16-18 as our peak years so that gives us time to build additional pieces.

Cost is nearly meaningless. We're not gonna be in a position to be under the cap so whether Melo makes 16 or 20 were gonna have the same general restrictions from a CBA perspective. Just matters for the owners pocket book. They'll never be a NY or NJ, but we can expect them to be a Lakers type spender with the right roster.

God you've been watching the Cubs too much

No it's really true guys, Rose isn't gonna be fully ready next year. And even if he does, this isn't the MLB where there's only money in between you and building the roster as there's just tons of stupid rules. There's no way we can add Melo and also reasonably expect to retain/add a full Championship roster. It's the NBA so you build the top first.

That being said the current team without Rose and no Melo is still a contender to make it to the ECF, but realistically speaking we'll be on year one of our big three where we gutted the roster, so if 15 is our version of the 89 Bulls, 16-18 should be our 91-93 Bulls. We're not talking about tanking, but the realistic expectation of getting a top 15 player is gonna require some sacrifice, and not worrying about a guy who's never played an NBA game or even someone like Gibson if push comes to shove.

Why won't Rose be recovered? Westbrook looked fine with a more severe version of Derrick's injury this year. I understand the barely playing in 2 years thing but he's playing with Team USA this summer. Even if he starts out slow he'll be fine by midseason.

Man this game went from hopeful to hopeless incredibly fast

Looking at all the positive posts above this reminds me of the Bears/Vikings this year when people were discussing our path to the NFC title game during the 3rd quarter and bottoming out for a high draft pick at the end.

The Bulls still need a scorer, this shouldn't come to a shock to anyone. The Bulls are 16-19 in the playoffs under Thibodeau. Playing hard like they do in the regular season doesn't translate to playoff wins. Now this is on Paxson and Forman more than anyone. Go out and bring in a scorer and combine that with defense and playing hard.

Ryne's unrealistic hopes for this version of the Bulls is so strange.

How has Thibs underperformed in the playoffs? Seriously? His first year they went to the ECF. You can argue that the Bulls should have expected to make the finals since they had the best record in basketball but I think ECF loss was an acceptable result. Second year they were absolutely devistated by Rose's torn ACL but people also forget they lost Noah for the last 3.5 games of the series as well. Lose your best 2 players, one of whom was the league MVP the year before and only elite offensive player, and the other is the heart of the defense and team, and I won't blame them for losing. Even without Rose and Noah, the Bulls probably should have won the series (and they might have if CJ didnt pass to [expletive] Asik allowing him to shoot FTs), but its hard to really judge the emotional impact of losing your two best players early in a playoff series.

Third year, what more did you expect from the Bulls? They lost Deng and Hinrich midway through the series, Noah was hobbling from plantir fasciitis, Nate Robinson was puking in buckets during TOs and they managed to win a game 7 on the road, then take game 1 from a team that won 67 games in the regular season. Did you expect them to win more than 1 against the Heat?

If they lose this series, IMO only then can you START to THINK about building an argument that Thibs is a disappointment in the playoffs. But again this is only game 1 and Thibs is a better coach than Whitman, so we will see what adjustments he can make.
