looks like he was pitching at that level through early may, then called up to AA (where he had an ERA under 2.00), then sent back down about 3 weeks ago. if they did that just to get him into the FSL playoffs, that's pretty pathetic. it's not like he's a young prospect who could use the added game experience; he's 28 and played the full season, and is clearly too advanced for that level.

looks like he was pitching at that level through early may, then called up to AA (where he had an ERA under 2.00), then sent back down about 3 weeks ago. if they did that just to get him into the FSL playoffs, that's pretty pathetic. it's not like he's a young prospect who could use the added game experience; he's 28 and played the full season, and is clearly too advanced for that level.

 

It sure seemed like he was sent down solely for the playoffs. Pretty dumb.

I've read they were planning on getting him to a certain amount, then letting him loose next year. I think we would have heard if there was an issue with him.

I wonder though how many organizations view winning MiLB championships as an important part of development? I know the Orioles have done this in the past when Delmarva has been good (not an issue this year since they have a team full of 22 YOs playing low A ball and still managing to be horrible). I've also heard that the Cards think that it's really important too, though that could just be the big club blowing smoke.

 

Personally, I don't really see it as a player development issue so much as a way to reward the farm teams who probably really need the extra revenue they get from playoff games.
