Some guy at ESPN whose name sounds like Chief Raw wrote this in what may or may not be pay content.

• Moving on to hitters, the Cubs' trio of impact hitting prospects all looked good on Tuesday and then went off at home on Wednesday afternoon. (I was only at the Tuesday game, but was at another game on Wednesday.) Jorge Soler has filled out significantly since I last saw him in late 2012, now making louder contact during a very impressive BP, but looked rusty at the plate in that first game.

Kris Bryant also looked strong in BP with plus-plus raw power and had no problem handling bigger velocity on Tuesday, squaring up a 97 mph fastball for a hard-hit single. Albert Almora had the game of the Fall League so far on Wednesday, falling a triple short of the cycle, and has filled out nicely as well since he first signed after the 2012 draft.

Also, SSS disclaimer and all that, but I'm pretty excited with how Almora is doing as one of the very youngest players in the AFL.

I know it's a hitter's league, but if he puts up a monster season in the AFL, I'd roll the dice and let him skip Daytona.

Definitely not.

Yeah, as much time as he missed last year, I think it would be a bad idea to completely skip high A. A promotion schedule similar to what Baez had last year seems more reasonable.

He would have been promoted last year along with Vogelbach anyway if not for the injury. If he rakes against by far the best pitching he's seen in his career to date I don't think it's far-fetched that the FO would think about it, also considering the horrible weather of Daytona and his maturity/makeup.

Agree with cal, Almora will start at Daytona and can be moved up from there when the time is right.

Also, I don't think the Daytona weather is a problem in the spring, is it?

On Almora, I was pleased to see the comment that he's filled out some. That had been my superficial impression just from the hugging-Bryant picture. Whether a guy hits 25 or 12 HR's makes kind of a lot of difference.

Nowhere near as bad as it is in July and August.

Sure, he would have been promoted to Daytona but didn't get that opportunity. He lost a lot of PAs last season and I see no reason to rush him. As suggested above, putting him on Baez' schedule would be ideal - a few successful months at Daytona and then get him to Tennessee.

Rainouts are generally a minor thing April - June in the FSL.

Soler in RF, Bryant DHing today. No Almora.

Soler got on base somehow and then scored a run on a Bryant single.

Soler reached on an error in the first. Singled and scored in the third.

Bryant is 1/2 with a single, K (swinging) and an RBI.

Getting caught up with this thread. Nice of the limp dick crowd to show up and stomp on everyone's sandcastle a couple pages ago. Joyless nerds.

Ha, my buddy overheard Theo talking to Carrie Muskat

"Maybe we should have invited Girardi to this game"

gross I hope that isn't true

Yeah, what an idiot, being all happy knowing that our top prospects are going to be awesome major leaguers. Makes me wanna puke, what with his confidence that we'll have a better future than the stinking Yankees. Bring back MacPhail/Hendry, they are true pros.

yeah, on a day where two NL central teams played for the right to go to the NLCS and the cubs were apparently spurned by their top managerial choice, I would be kinda grossed out by theo walking around with his chest puffed out about a 19 year old's 4-5 day in a glorified scrimmage. I mean, i'm pumped about the farm system too, but I bet girardi gives zero [expletive] about albert almora.

and I understand that if theo did say this (which I really doubt) he was likely joking.

I wanna party with you!

HR Kris Bryant. He's going to play in the majors during the 2014 season.

Does his OPS need to be over 2.000 for him to be in the top half of the lineup? I think it's funny that he's probably been the best hitter on the last two teams he's played for (counting the Solar Sox) and hasn't hit above 5th.

im still at the stage where i kind of dread the possibility of Baez busting, but I think Bryant is a sure deal.

What constitutes Javy being a bust? I'm to the point he's definitely a long time starter, even if its a low BA/OBP type because he's going to hit 25+ homers.
