Castro goes back to being Castro, Rizzo takes a step forward, Castillo starts becoming what the FO says he has the potential to be. Lake is maddening at times but hits .250 and goes 20/20, Olt hits .250 with 20+ HR. Shark is an All Star, Wood doesn't decline much, Arrieta pitches like a mid rotation starter. 3 of Valbuena, Bonifacio, Kalish, Ruggiano, Sweeney, and Nate are decent. The bullpen IS a strength. Javy comes up at the break and does Javy things. Hendricks does as well and is a capable back end starter. Alcantara and Vogelbach are dealt for a TOR starter at mid season.

I love spring.

Cubs win 89 games and sneak into the second wild card. Travel to Washington for the WC game, which we win 5-3 after Javier Baez hits a 3-run homer in the top of the ninth.

Then get swept 3-0 by the Cardinals in the NLDS without ever holding a lead.

While leaving at least 13 runners on base each game, and our pitching staff being dominated by NLDS MVP Daniel Descalso

It may be overly optimistic but I think Castro comes back big time. I'm putting a lot of the blame on Sveum.

In 2011, Castro had an OB% of .371 in the lead off spot..I think he had 72 games there. So of course in 2012, Sveum put him at lead-off 1 time. Even in his god awful least season, He had an OB% of around .310 in the 1 and 2 holes. Not great but when you look and see he was around .200 for ob% (not average) hitting down in the order, it's clear he's more comfortable there.

Looking back exactly why did we need to change the approach of guy who had a .340+ ob% over nearly 2 seasons?

I'm just hoping he gets off to a good start just to keep him relaxed.

That's an extremely succesful season considering actual expectations.

I'd think we'd need once in a career years similar to 1984!

All we need is to get a line of .314/.367/.520/.887 with a WAR of 8.4 out of our 2B.

Great idea!

Cubs get...

Robinson Cano

Astros get....

...nevermind.

It was the beginning of a B2B 3-way trade. :(

For the Cubs to win 89 games, the Cubs would have to get Cano and King Felix while keeping Shark and Castro.

It has been about 2 1/2 years since the last one, but I guess some posters like to live in the past.

Moving him around the lineup didn't "change his approach."

If Liriano starts for #Pirates Monday, @mike_olt will start at 3B for the #Cubs

Please tell me they're not platooning him

oh FFS, you'd think that they'd give him some time to succeed or fail given his upside. where is the need to give Barney 500 PA's coming from?

Called this two weeks ago RT @CubsDen Hearing that if Olt can make the throws from 3B, he's going to get the job.

REALLY GUY?

Yeah, I saw that. Pretty f'in narcissistic to congratulate yourself on calling something that could be reasonably assumed by pretty much everyone.

I think people on this board overestimate the percentage of fans who share their level of insight. This is still a special place.

The classics never stop being classic.

You could go JR Towles or NSBBlol for Meph and be good too.

WTF..How about he splits time with Barney?

I'm sure he will also, but maybe working more at third early to make sure the shoulder stays solid. It also sounds like Bonifacio will play almost everyday but all over the place. So he may take the left handed at bats at 2b.
