Seeing some mentions on Twitter......Can he play anywhere other than 1B? If not, is it still worth it to go after him? Use Rizzo as bait for a frontline SP possibly? At any rate, this dude rakes. Best hitter in Cuba.

Just saw that too. [expletive] it, sign him, who cares.

Yeah, seriously; who gives a [expletive] who he is "blocked" by? The guy has put up retardedly insane numbers. If this is actually happening there's basically no excuse to not throw whatever it takes at him to sign him.

I didn't realize he's 6'3, 240. After reading a Jonah Keri piece, 1B is it for him. But still, damn. Trade Rizzo, try him in the OF? Whatever. Go get this guy.

No trading Rizzo. Just stick him in LF and hope he's not Adam Dunn.

Wont it be a tough sell though? we can offer the guy the most money, but he's in his late 20s and wants to play now. I mean, offer him whatever he wants, but he still has to accept the deal. Someone will offer him a lot of money and an immediate spot in the lineup.

They should have no problem putting him into the lineup immediately. Even with an assumed downgrade from his Cuban numbers he still likely trumps Rizzo. Try Rizzo in the OF or trade him; whatever works. They need this guy.

Fuckin' stupid NL and not having the DH.

Take Rizzo with you and let Rizzo tell him he'll move to LF or whatever. Other point remains though-Damn near every team in baseball will be in on him.

This is a chance to add an elite bat well below what it would cost in FA and without having to pony up a farm crippling prospect package. Open up the wallet and give him what he wants.

Holy [expletive], this is a game-changer. Obviously exempt from IFA spending rules and historic career numbers in Cuba. Let's do this yesterday

Failure here basically is the for real heroin-to-the-forehead-scenario.

Then prepare yourself.

Yeah, I don't see this one happening.

His defense is supposed to be awful, right (IIRC, it was mentioned in the piece that he was so bad defensively that he broke in as a DH)?

The gap in value between he and freshly turned 24 year old Rizzo might not be as much as people think.

I hate you so much right now.

To put it in perspective, in his prime, Dunn was so bad defensively that he usually peaked around a 3 win player (what Rizzo is right now). He had one 4.9 win season in 04 in which his defensive numbers were flukishly not that bad for some reason.

I'm not sure Abreu is THAT bad in the field, but it seems plausible from what I read.

Everyone knows how Dunn's defense impacted his value. Unless Abreu's value is SO bad that he can't even play 1B without it dragging him way down then I'd still rather they look to him to man 1B for the foreseeable future as opposed to Rizzo.

All I've got is that at 17, he was so bad defensively that he DH'ed all year... and this:

He's a first baseman at best and maybe a DH if and when he makes the big leagues. He doesn't run well. His body is not exactly chiseled.

It seems like some of you guys are way too willing to cast Rizzo aside and aren't aware of how good he actually is.
