What's the story on Cael Brockmeyer?

Roster filler catcher or someone who could possibly play at in the big leagues in a couple years?

Brockmeyer? One of the few front to back wipers in the game.

Brockmeyer is a guy I've had my eye on. He's a college draftee from a smaller school where he hit a ton. The reports are he's not much of a defensive catcher, so he'll need his bat to carry him since he may need to move to 1B or corner OF. I've been hoping for more pop in Boise since he's a 22 year old college draftee, but hopefully that will come in time. Long term, have similar hopes for him that you did for Clevenger, that his defense is okay enough to be a solid bench option that relies on his hit tool to provide value.

Thanks.

I know catching is a weakness in the system, so I guess that sort of projection is actually pretty decent at this point in time.

Rosscup gets an inning and strikes out the side

Vogelbach with a single and 3 BB.

=D>

Almost certain he'll be in the bullpen on opening day 2014.

Something we haven't mentioned much with Baez is his base-stealing ability. After stealing 2nd in the first inning tonight, he's 44 for 52 (85%) in 193 games, including 18 of 21 this year and 6 of 7 at AA. That translates to 25-35 per year at a great percentage, depending on which rate of frequency you want to use.

At 6'5'' he is tall for a catcher. I would think he would spend more time at 1st. He started hitting real well when I saw him against the Hops, but I worry about whether he will be able to handle the inside part of the plate with pitchers at a higher level.

Yep.

I remember hearing/reading last year that his base stealing wasn't expected to translate to MLB or something, though.

Yeah, that's been said a lot, with no explanation. I don't really get how that works.

Probably because in the minors, most pitchers suck at holding baserunners and most catchers suck at throwing. That's the only thing I can think of, anyway.

Yeah, that is why.
