EVERYDAY IS A GOOD PITCHING DAY!

Eh. Edwards is probably the only one that matters.

Giving up on Maples already?

Posted
Edwards is our most interesting pitcher to me, Maples is good now, and Conception still has another month or two of me having hope that he'll start to show something. It's much better than a couple months ago when we just had to wait around for Pierce Johnson day.

In Iowa, we've got Hendricks. Cabrera too, albeit out of the pen now. No one at Tennessee that I care about, as far as starters go. Daytona is loaded with Pierce, CJ, Pineyro, and Black. KC has Rob Z, Skulina, and Scott. Boise has Paniagua, Blackburn, Underwood, Maples, Masek, Hoffner, and Frazier. Arizona has Leal, Torrez, and Clifton. Plus we have guys like Loux, Loosen, Jokisch, Peralta, Pugliese, Arias, Concepcion, and Conway to keep tabs on as well. With Adzolay and Figueroa putting up good numbers in the DSL and Tseng, Moreno, and Mejia all to dream on for next year. Everyone talks about how our pitching is weak-I bet if we were just ranking pitching prospects in the minors, our system is in the top 15.

I think Edwards is a bit under the weather, according to his Twitter. Hope he's feeling good by tonight.

Doesn't matter. They will probably get rained out

Maybe a month ago, but Maples has been owning lately.

18 IP, 15 H, 2 ER, 16/6 K/BB, 2.40 GO/AO

He's doing it in a short season league, as a 21 year old, in his 3rd year as a professional since being drafted (granted he has been injured). This good stretch MAY get him in the backend of my personal top 25 by the end of the year.

Yeah, but a month ago he had no idea where the plate was and now he's had at least a few starts in a row where he's not walking much of anybody. I feel like drastic improvement like that is worth keeping an eye on, particularly when you have the type of coaching/player development we seem to now.

And he has plus stuff when his mechanics are on.

I've made this comp previously but Maples reminds me of Rich Hill before the light turned on for Hill. Quality stuff, bad mechanics and poor control.

#IowaCubs skipper Marty Pevey said he's hoping to have injured INF Josh Vitters back around Monday. #PCL #Cubs

Not that it really matters at this point.

Javy's K% is 30.1% entering today. Here's hoping it can go below 30 soon and stay that way. His BB% is at a career high 8.4%

The Daytona Cubs, in what appears to be a new record, are almost 50 minutes to game time without a cancellation/delay.

It definitely matters.

Does anyone believe Vitters would have fared better if Theo had been around when he was drafted?

It's still a bit puzzling to me a guy as talented as he is couldn't figure it out. I mean, his bat speed/control is so impressive, yet, he could never get the idea of plate discipline down?

His defense at 3B sure never helped either. However, I guess I just don't understand how he never amounted to becoming a regular in the majors. Especially, with the black holes we've been running out there at 3B (minus Valbeauna who I like). The lack of power was a bit alarming too. Vitters is like a poor mans Howie Kendrick, but doesn't have the value of playing 2B.

I'd like to see him hit well for a few weeks, get called up, and hit well enough to where he could net us a bullpen piece or a lower level, relatively high upside type with some flaws. Honestly though, I think thats his best shot at helping us, at this point.

Vitters, yeah he has been enigmatic in that way. Cant figure out why he hasn't stepped up. His biggest problem is his defense. I still think he can hit at a major league level. He has always taken a while to hit at each level. His cup of coffee last September was not enough to decide he cant adjust to the pitching. If he doesn't improve his D. though he may not get the chance to prove he can hit.

Edwards just gave up his first pro homer. 4/1 K/BB through two innings, though.

To a guy with 9 professional HR in nearly 1600 PAs. I guess that's how it works.
