Edwards just gave up his first pro homer. 4/1 K/BB through two innings, though.

32 rangers appearances: 0 home runs allowed

3 cubs appearances: 1 home run allowed

ONLY THE CUBS

anyway, he's got 4 strikeouts in 2 innings, which is cool.

Vitters may would have fared better under Theo, but Theo never would have passed on Wieters to take him anyway.

He would have if the Tribune still owned the team.

The difference was less than 3 million bucks, the hesitancy was far more on the "will Wieters sign at all" or "is Wieters worth his asking price" and not "will ownership be okay with this contract". Remember, this was the June after they went nuts in free agency, money wasn't exactly scarce.

Hmm, I thought I had read something to the contrary. Something about Wilken really wanting him but not getting the OK.

There is some stuff out there, but considering the timing of those revelations(5 years later) I'm still skeptical.

Does anyone believe Vitters would have fared better if Theo had been around when he was drafted?

I really don't think Theo would have taken him that high. He was sick his senior year in high school and did not have impressive numbers. He had/has a sweet swing and ability to make contact. Typical toolsy player Hendry loved.

I had heard that Wilken liked Wieters even prior to the recent media blitz (something like his top 3 that year were Price/Wieters/Moustakas).

When was the last game he started? At least he struck our 8 and only gave up 2 hits.

He threw one inning on Wednesday before the rains came, aside from that his last start was 7/28.

Vitters, yeah he has been enigmatic in that way. Cant figure out why he hasn't stepped up.

He's was hitting well for his age at AAA last year. He got called up to play MLB because the Cubs had maybe the worst 3B situation in baseball and had nothing to play for. He predictably looked awful, considering he was 22 years old and really hadn't had that much seasoning in AAA. Olt looked awful in his cup of coffee last year too, a full year older. His defense probably isn't good at 3B as an everyday player, but is it good enough to spot start , as well as play occasional 1B and LF and provide a righty bat off bench ? I would say a guy like that has value, particularly when he's cheap and cost controlled. If Rizzo is going to continue to continue to hit at < .700 OPS and OBP < .300 against LHP, it would be nice to have a cheap right handed 1B to occasionally give Rizzo his "rest day" against strong left handed starters.

Little surprised there seemingly hasn't been any talk of Lim around here. He's looked pretty solid in the minors so far. Curious to see when he hits the majors. Might be a really nice addition to the BP next year.

maples doing it again so far

@Cubs_Prospects

Dillon Maples has gone 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K.

Final Line for Maples: 5 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 7/2 GO/FO

Kris Bryant is 1 for 3 with a double, walk and two K's. He has a 13 game hit streak.

Yeah, Maples is finally awesome. I hoping this can continue and he can start next year in Daytona.

I'd be a little surprised by that.

I'd be very surprised. He'd essentially be skipping A-ball.
