Arguello suggested Almora could play in the AFL this year. I can't ever remember the rules for the AFL rosters, so is this even an option?

IIRC you can have 1 or 2 guys that is under AA ball go to AFL. Baez went last year and got hurt right? I was thinking that Soler would go to AFL this year to make up for the lost time this season.

I really hope this piggyback thing isn't permanent for Wells (that is, a permanent move to the pen for his career). While he looks like he'll never take that next step and firm up his breaking ball consistency, he's still put together a solid season (not great, but solid), and has shown that his ground ball rate is carrying over, consistently, at a higher level.

That said, Daytona has gone from a squad with interesting bats to a squad with an interesting staff, and it sure looks like they are rotating/piggybacking guys a bit. Been an interesting year at Daytona with how it's gone from a positional laden group to a pitching laden group.

I think there are just too many arms there. CJ Edwards is piggybacking today.

Edwards/Johnson/Wells/Pineyro/Black is the best 5 man rotation I can remember at an affiliate.

The 2002 (?) Boise rotation was pretty awesome.

Andy Sisco, Ricky Nolasco, jae Kuk Ryu, Donald Veal (maybe), Luke Hagerty and Rich Hill also may have been on that team.

That's a good group. Was there ever a time when a combination of Cruz, Guzman, Z, Prior, etc. were on the same team?

Boise 2001 was: Angel Guzman, Sergio Mitre, Felix Sanchez, Dontrelle Willis, Carmen Pignatiello

That's pretty strong, too.

Yeah that was my favorite group. I was big on Felix Sanchez and Angel Guzman was literally one of the best arms I have ever seen. He was good Marmol with more potential to start, IMO.

Other than Prior blowing up, Guzman is the prospect I regret most who never developed to what he could be (more than Patterson and Pie). I still remember scouts saying right as Prior and Z were coming up that Guzman still had more potential and was a better prospect than them. I don't think that was the consensus in the scouting community but I know that was a few scouts sentiments.

I think you're confusing Guzman and Cruz.

Nope. I remember the same being said about Guzman. That he might be better than Prior.

Veal was drafted after 2002, but the rest of them all were part of that rotation.

Those 2001 and 2002 Boise rotations were stacked.

He has a 33/4 K/BB. The hits are inflated by a .365 BABIP. This kid needs a challenge.

the hits can be a result of bad luck or they can be a result of him having poor command within the strike zone and throwing too many hittable strikes. he's 18 years old, probably barely speaks english and pitching his first year outside of his home country. i'm sure he is being challenged.

He pitched outside of his home country last year.

well, Corey Black struck out 8 in 4 innings, but he also walked 3 and gave up 2 home runs.

mini Bauer?

Black is pretty much a lock to end up in the pen. He has great late inning potential.

Just meant cause he seems to K and BB a lot.
