There is not a single reason for Marmol to be here anymore (except to tank games and help our draft position, which is why he will remain on the team).

Yes, that's their diabolical plan. Fantastic detective work.

How the [expletive] does he do this against the bottom part of a lineup this wretched? He just managed to string together several good relief appearances, and then comes out with absolutely nothing in maybe the best possible situation for him to actually get a save. How broken is this guy?

You said it best a few posts above. Put him back in a closing situation with some pressure, and the dude just melts down.

Maybe he can have another good season in him. With a different team. In a different year.

But the thing is, there should have been basically no pressure. He MADE the pressure. It's a horrible team, it's the bottom of their lineup; even after the first HR he's still in the driver's seat and he somehow manages to pitch them out of a victory.

100 percent agree that there shouldn't have been. But I'm not sure Carlos and his head viewed it that way.

Yea, I mean he came in with the bases empty and a 3-run lead against the 5-6-7 hitters of the team that has (i) scored the third fewest runs in the NL (Marlins and Dodgers), (ii) the second lowest OBP in the NL (Marlins), and (iii) the second lowest SLG in the NL (Marlins). If that's somehow "too much pressure," then there literally is no use for him on the roster to begin with. Edited by Have a seat, Neifi

Well that just killed my good mood.

Would have preferred anyone else not named Shawn Camp in that situation.

He got one out, and it was a [expletive] sacrifice. Just end it and get rid of him.

Yup, I don't really see how you can have him come back and pitch for the Cubs again at this point. And if he does, what on earth is the point for the organization moving forward?

I was on the way home and turned it on the radio just as the bottom of the 9th started. It was pure comedy. Hughes' voice sounded like he was half on the verge of laughter and half on the verge of tears.

The last like 4-5 times he has done this, I've thought there'd be no way he'd get another major league appearance.

And then he does it again. It's crazy.

I had already walked away from the game to take a shower and I came back to the end of the post game show and overheard them say something about the Mets salvaging the last game and I was just like WAT??

Len went into the whole thing saying "here we go" and just sounded so completely nonplussed when the Mets won it.

I'm not irrational crazy meatball guy and I've already thought this like 4 times this year, as I said above. I have no faith that they'll actually dump his ass at this point.

I realize that Sveum doesn't have a lot of good options, but he repeatedly chooses the worst of the bad options. There are so many people to be mad at here. Epstein, Hoyer, Sveum, Marmol... They are all contributing to losses that simply should not happen to a major league baseball team. Marmol's blown saves may give the Cubs a better draft position by 1 or 2 slots, but at some point this team needs to win the games it should win.

The only good news is that for the people who can't understand how it's possible for the Cubs to go from, let's say 90 losses, to wild card contention next year only have to be told that Carlos Marmol will no longer be here. Screw all the other numbers.

What you guys have to remember is that if you take out the first two weeks and also a few other appearances, he was almost league average coming into today.

Looking forward to the ensuing massive booing Carlos will receive the next time he pitches at Wrigley.

In a prefect scenario, he would NOT be wearing a Cub home uniform.

I'm assuming this will be higher in leverage so I'm including it here.

In 5 of his top 9 average Leverage Index according to B-R, Marmol has give up at least two runs and blown four of the games (the other was April 4 when he gave up two to Pittsburgh with a 3-0 lead). Of the other four appearances, two were against the Marlins and the other two were back to back appearances against Cincinnati. On April 22, he threw two scoreless innings (9th and 10th). On April 23, he relieved Villanueva with a runner on second and one out and gave up a single to Votto which tied the game. He then walked two of the next three hitters to load the bases before getting out of it.

So in his highest 9 leverage situations, he's been terrible in five, bad in one, good in one and had two against the Marlins.
