In no way I am defending Marmol as a major-league pitcher, but what is he as a human being supposed to do? He is called upon to pitch, he pitches. I don't believe he is tanking it on purpose, he has simply become a terrible baseball player. It has to be absolutely humiliating to keep walking into that clubhouse with the loss solely on your head. The blame should have long since shifted to management, who is clearly trying to salvage value where there is simply none left.

I'm done with Dale. He cannot manage a bullpen.

He isn't the right man for the job. I don't care how bad this team is.

Marmol isn't a closer anymore and Dale acted like he was.

Nobody has suggested he is "tanking on purpose." The frustration is based both on how good he used to be and how he's even shown this very season he can still put together good outings. It would actually be better if he was nothing but terrible because he would have been gone long ago.

I'm assuming this will be higher in leverage so I'm including it here.

In 5 of his top 9 average Leverage Index according to B-R, Marmol has give up at least two runs and blown four of the games (the other was April 4 when he gave up two to Pittsburgh with a 3-0 lead). Of the other four appearances, two were against the Marlins and the other two were back to back appearances against Cincinnati. On April 22, he threw two scoreless innings (9th and 10th). On April 23, he relieved Villanueva with a runner on second and one out and gave up a single to Votto which tied the game. He then walked two of the next three hitters to load the bases before getting out of it.

So in his highest 9 leverage situations, he's been terrible in five, bad in one, good in one and had two against the Marlins.

I wish it was more comforting that my "HE SUCKS UNDER PRESSURE" hunch was right. Just make him go awaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

As predicted, Sveum gives away another W. Putting Marmol in a high leverage spot again is inexcusable. That's all that needs to be said.

Well, no; he didn't put him into a high leverage spot.

First guy to defend Marmol in any way gets a grenade.

Marmol is still a high quality pitcher who deserves one last shot.
