Lake's most needed spot is SS based on the roster but I tHink that ship has sailed. Goimg to be interesting where he plays with the guys on the 40 man at all his positions other than SS.

He'll probably start out at 3B as long as Vitters is on the DL.

I'm by no means an expert on fielding, but as long as their primary objective is to make sure Lake get's reps in preparation to play big league 3B, isn't it pretty much ok to let him play SS? Of course he won't be turning double plays and ranging to his left much at third, but fielding from the left side of the infield is all that he should really need to be doing.

I don't think so. The ball comes faster at 3rd, the body/throwing angle on choppers and bunts is quite different, the length of throw is different, the time to throw is different, and the sight-line on pitches is significantly different so it's harder to get a good jump on a ball. If they think he might someday become able to play good 3B defense, then put him at 3B and let him try.

What will be interesting is what they do when Vitters comes back. They'll basically have to admit who they see as the better long-term option at 3B. I still think they prefer Lake.

Well, Lake played all but one rehab game in CF when he could have played any position they wanted him to. I think they envision him as an OF at this point.

That's interesting. Looks like I'm wrong. I thought he was splitting time pretty evenly between CF and 3B.

Baez 0-for-2 with a pair of OBP-raising HBPs.

I actually think this may be a somewhat sustainable way for Baez to get on base a little more. He was HBP 11 times last year in 321 PAs, and 8 times so far this year in 238 PAs. Some guys seem to have a knack for getting hit. However, in Javy's case, it may just be a result of him doing whatever the f*#% he wants. Let's just hope it doesn't lead to injuries..
