So the Cleveland RacistNames only have Rich F'in Hill as a lefty in their bullpen. Any chance they might be interested in James Russel, and would the return even be worth it? I don't know if I'd be interested in moving him for less than a Sean Marshall return, and I'm not sure other teams would agree that he has that sort of value.

I don't think James Russell is going to net the Cubs anyone interesting.

Hmm, ok, that's just wrong.

He hasn't seemed quite as good this season since Sveum started giving him the Camp treatment.

@Ken_Rosenthal Source says #Cubs indeed listening on Samardzija, adds, “asking price high as expected.”

Rosenthal also had a TV appearance where he mentions Arizona would be "certainly interested", and "possibly" Boston as well.

There's been enough rumblings about Samardzija being shopped that it's starting to depress me a bit, because even though there are a variety of reasons why they might listen to see if someone overwhelms them(lack of belief in Shark, pessimism about extending him, pessimism about competing before he hits FA) , none of them are very positive signs.

Who said he's being shopped? There's a fairly big difference between listening and shopping a player around. If someone calls Theo/Jed and offers them a package they can't refuse, they'd have to at least listen. Doesn't mean you trade him but it's smart to "listen" to everyone on your team.

If the DBacks offered Skaggs, Bradley and Davidson, I'd have a tough time in turning that down.

Whatever term you want to use, there's been enough rumors mentioning Shark's name to think that there's some doubts about his future with the organization. None of the reasons for those doubts are particularly good omens, despite the fact that they could get good value in return.

That offer was overboard. Just trying to say you have to listen to everyone that's on your team. That doesn't mean you're calling the other 29 teams asking them for their final offer. If a team overwhelms you with an offer, you have to at least consider it, even if you still turn it down.

God, I really want Archie Bradley. Him and Walker from Seattle. Not too many dudes I would trade Shark for, but Bradley definitely tops that list.

Highly doubtful Samardzija will be traded, but you listen to offers just in case somebody is ready to over pay big time. Where are the same talks about Castro? That is one I could see the Cubs making. Maybe not now, but over the winter. Still hope to see them move a few more pieces before the deadline. So who is next to go? and when?

Probably not the best time to trade Castro considering how badly he struggled to start the season.

Really, the only trade they have to make at this point is flipping Gregg. Everything else depends on someone overpaying.

The DBacks, Pirates, Red Sox, and others have checked in on Samardzija.

Watch out for Pirates and Dbacks.

Taillon+Polanco+Kingham+Stetson sounds pretty nice to me.

yeah, there's nothing really that exciting out there to be had for anyone left on the team that we'd trade. maybe schierholtz, but probably not.

shark is the kind of guy you're praying one of your traded-for prospects turns out to be. he could go another 4-5 years for you and anchor your rotation while Baez, Soler, Bryant, and Almora are making ML all-star teams.

I really think you're pulling that assumption out of thin air. Just because the big rumor guys needed something to throw at a wall and heard Towers called the Cubs again about Shark doesn't mean there's any doubts or concern about Shark.

I wouldn't have a problem trading Shark to the Pirates. Mainly because if he's good for them, they won't be able to afford him after 2015 anyway. If they'd part with Taillon/Polanco/Glasnow/Kingham, I'd do it and not look back.

Maybe they'll spend all the playoff revenue you helped them get to be able to afford his extension. Not to mention it probably wouldn't hurt for us to care a little about the 2014 and 2015 NL Central.

Or Taillon could be just as good or better in the majors next year than Shark is. There's obviously two ways to look at everything.
