Man I need to rewatch that movie. It's been too long.

Definitely feels like this will be a busy All-Star Break for the Cobs.

Not much new:

Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune reports that Matt Garza is likely to be traded before he makes another start with the Cubs.

Rogers says that the Dodgers, Nationals, Red Sox, Rangers, Tigers, Orioles, Pirates and Blue Jays had scouts at Garza's start Saturday, though he considers the Tigers and Orioles longshots to land the righty. Garza has boosted his trade value with some excellent work of late, posting a 1.24 ERA over his last six starts.

Interesting:

Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Pirates are "studying deals" for Nate Schierholtz and Alex Rios.

Either would be an upgrade in right field, a position where the team's production (.239/.302/.377) has been lacking this season. Rogers notes that Rios "seems like a reach" for the Pirates since he's owed, between his salary and buyout, $13.5 million beyond this season. Schierholtz, who is making just $2.25 million this season, could be the more realistic fit and would form a solid platoon with Jose Tabata. Schierholtz is batting .269/.327/.498 with 11 homers and 34 RBI this season.

True or False: We will get a better package than Archer,Lee,others (what we gave up for garza)

Comparing the immediate reaction to those deals? False

Comparing the production they get from the return? True

Bruce Levine of ESPNDallas.com reports that the Rangers and Blue Jays "remain the front-runners" for Matt Garza.

Levine notes that the Red Sox, Indians and Giants are also in contention for the right-hander. An earlier report from Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune stated that the Nationals, Tigers, Orioles and Pirates have also scouted Garza. The owner of a 1.24 ERA over his last six starts, Garza is expected to be traded before his next outing.

I guess it shows how little I watch or read ESPN, but I had no idea Levine had left Chicago.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus

He hasn't. That's either a typo, or attributing to something he said if ESPN Dallas had him on for a radio spot or the like.

I'll assume that the extension talks that may or may not have taken place did not go as well as they'd hoped.

Arguello and Loxas at Cubsden think Texas likely gets Garza, but are hearing Olt IS in play, but NOT as the main piece. Edited by davell

That may be, but it seems like he's been "expected to be traded before his next outing" for the last two outings.

Profar?

Can't remotely see that. They insinuated Perez may still be on the table though. Depending on how you view Olt currently, a guy like Luke Jackson could be thought of a larger piece.

Noticed Rangers have moved him around (outfield) which was curious. Suppose they're trying to get him some ML at-bats.

Olt has been hitting pretty well since he got over whatever his problem was earlier in the year. If he's not the main piece, i wouldn't mind taking an SCS on him assuming there's something in his swing they think they can fix.

Perez, Olt, and Burns. Neither team's fans would be completely stoked about it, so it might be about right.

.237/.337/.446 with a 30% K rate. Better, but still a lot of red flags.
