The FSL has had it easy so far. Baez and Soler are the best 2 hitting prospects on any team in the league, but they have not been in sync at all this year. Last night's 2nd game and now tonight's game are the only times they have had multi hit games in the same game. When Soler has been hot, Javy has been cold like most of the year. The couple good streaks Baez has had came when Soler was struggling or coming off suspension. If they get it going together and Geiger keeps hitting they are going to score a ton of runs.

The oft forgotten upper levels add to the weekends offensive outburst. Torreyes 2-4 with a 2B, Szczur 3-4 with a 2B, Villanueva 1-4. Even Ian Strwart is 2-2 with a 2B; is that his first multi hit game of the season?

Looked up Buxton's age and stats for the first time....goodness. You think the Twins want Soriano or Marmol?

You're just doing this to torture me, right?

I really thought we had a chance to get him in last year's draft after he fell past the first two.

Buxton or buxt.

Does Pierce Johnson have a shot at any mid-season Top 100 lists?

Probably, but I think people would likely want to see how he does at A+ before they make that determination.

You can blame the 2011 Cubs deciding to play above .500 for no good reason in the final two months of the season for that.

Your pining is what prompted me to look him up.

alcantara 3-4 with 2 doubles and a home run.

and a first inning sac bunt. :-s

On Tuesday, May 14th, Alcantara had gone 0-4 and was mired in a terrible slump that had dropped his avg to .234. I commented on how cold he had gotten and asked Kyle to say something negative about him so that he would break out of his slump. He did. A minute later, Alcantara drove in the winning run with a single in the 10th. Since Kyle's comment, Arismendy's gone 8-16 with 3 doubles and HR. He's raised his average 22 points in the last 4 games.

In the same thread, Tim asked Kyle to "energy blast" Javier Baez who's avg had fallen to .237. He did. In the 6 games prior to Kyle's comment, Baez had gone 5-25 with 2 runs scored, striking out 9 times with no walks. In the 4 games since, he's gone 7-18 with 5 runs scored, 1 strikeout and 1 walk, raising his avg 18 points.

Kyle, if I give you my powerball numbers, would you denigrate them for me?

I really want Rock Shoulders to be a thing.

Hopefully the NL will add two DH spots, one for the pitcher and one for Darwin Barney. Then we could use both Vogelbach and Shoulders.

Maybe a 3rd one for Geiger. Or maybe replace 3 relivers with bench bats; does it matter if there are 3 guys blowing 1 inning or 1 guy blowing 3 innings?

It's still a bit early, but there's some positive signs and he is age appropriate (age 21 season in A+).

I've always been under the impression that 21 is age appropriate for Low A, Short Season - 20/19, Rookie - 19/18 and so on. And by age appropriate I mean that is the age of a majority of the players at that level. If you are a top prospect you're probably a year or two ahead of that pace.

I'm curious what other people think and why. Thanks.

According to BA, the median age for the FSL in 2012 was 23 years old. See: http://yourprospectsucks.tumblr.com/post/24623508386/the-basics-of-minor-league-baseball

Also, according to Minor League Central, there are only 13 batters under the age of 21 currently in the FSL. Dustin Geiger is the 26th youngest player in the entire league. http://minorleaguecentral.com/leaderboard?lid%5B%5D=123&y=2013&split=200&amod=%3C%3D&age=99&time=0&type=batter&table=0

According to BR, the average batter age in the FSL is 22.8. And according to them, Geiger is the 32nd, with regards to age, of hitters with an AB.

This may be a bit dated, but helpful to this discussion:
