i meant to address this the other day, but this is a [shadow=red]terrible[/shadow]argument unless you believe Gambler's Fallacy simply does not apply to baseball

which is admittedly something i have wondered on occasion

Hey ya'll I'm back after....a few years of not posting.

Is Starlin Castro still playing bad defense, hitting for no power and not taking any walks, and still, somehow, the object of immense scrutiny and praise despite being a below average player?

OH yeah, ok, cool glad to see some things don't change

i mean he is having a shitty year but aside from one completed season, he hasn't been a below average player so?

overall when you include the awful year and this one he's probably right at average for his career, though.

I did the numbers myself a couple weeks ago - at one point for the season - Castro had 53 hits and I believe 44 of them were singles. Couple that with minimal walk rate.. His average might look OK at the end of the season, but he really struggles driving the ball to the gaps. Lots of seeing eye singles. If his OBP was .340-.350, it'd be whatever, but that is unheard of for Mr. Castro

Except in 2010, when it was .347, 2011 when it was .341, and just last year, when it was .339 (which I'm assuming you won't count because it's an entire point outside of your criteria).

I'm pretty sure seasons like this one and 2013 are like porn for the segment of Cubs fandom that inexplicably see him as having been almost nothing but a disappointment.

Castro has had an OBP of .339 or greater in 3 of his 5 seasons so that's hardly rarified air, and he has 5 XBH and a .123 IsoP in June, but hitting for power is one of the things that's held him back so far this year. If you look at things by month May still looks like the outlier, but he'll want to get real hot at some point too.

And inevitably these kinds of responses get tagged as being from "Castro lovers" or whatever, as opposed to just countering a really ridiculous irrational dislike for a player that often results in people flat out making things up or completely ignoring stuff.

But he did the numbers. HE DID THE NUMBERS.

Yeah. I want to see him do well because it's just better for the team, whether they keep him or trade him.

Because I'm saving myself for Soler's tender embrace.

gay marriage led a slippery slope to gay polygamy, thanks to obama
