My guess/hope is that it's not someone on the Cubs since that's pretty [expletive] and I'd like to think he's smarter than that (and that Maddon and co. would have laid down the law on social media stupidity), plus there's seemingly nobody on the roster who deserves it.

Plus it's not like he's been getting any kind of regular playing time; why would he be expecting to automatically get the start, especially after having a turd of a game? All we've heard is how cool he's been with being benched and working with people to try and improve.

Castro has actually been getting regular playing time because of injuries. He's started 7 out of 8 games since Soler went down.

I agree with you that the initial theory didn't seem to make sense, and I'm glad it was cleared up quickly.

Much smaller controversy:

Jake playing the "you dont know you don't play the game" card. Somewhere Joe Morgan is smiling.

Hopefully he's still just drunk.

Huh; I thought he was basically playing every other game. Felt like I was seeing LaStella more than I probably actually was; he haunts me that way. Thanks for the correction.

LaStella has been playing a good amount too. I'm not sure how many games it's been as I missed most of the weekend's games but Bryant has been in RF a few times.

Other than his stance being less wide open at the start, it's hard to tell much from that collection of shots. They're taken at different points in the pitcher's delivery and he looks like he was totally fooled on the pitch in the first series.

Would love to see a good comparison that shows the changes Castro made to his swing. But those two sets of images aren't terribly valuable.

3rd picture looks identical to me, with the possible exception of angle of bat.

true. his hands are higher in the 2nd set. but it's at a different point in the delivery, so hard to know if there's a difference in the swing or just the timing of the picture.

He was either getting fooled a lot or had just developed the habit of sticking his butt out, leaning forward and swinging with just his arms. That was most of his swings earlier in the year.

Up to a 0.5 fWAR and a 0.3 rWAR. Wasn't he at or around -1.5 for both at one point?

I think it was closer to -1.0, but either way a remarkable turnaround. He's been worth 1.5-2 wins in about 6 weeks.

He's at 1.3 fWAR in August and September, so he probably bottomed out very close to -1.0 fWAR.

I could have sworn FG had him at -1.3 at one point and BR had him at -1.5. Someone get me my brain medicine.

you're probably thinking of one of the many, many other young players you know and can instantly recall at any time.

Only the important ones actually playing real baseball.

I remember looking at Angel Pagan's numbers and they were even shockingly worse than Castro

That Starlin has dragged his OPS into the .650s is a herculean effort

Has Starlin ever had a 5 HR month before this one?
