I have not been this juiced for a Wings game since 09 probably. Not sure why, cause I do think we can beat The Hawks if we do win. I guess it is my dislike for The Ducks

You do think or don't think you can beat the Hawks?

seguin is good at ES because he plays with the much, much better patrice bergeron. which isn't a knock on seguin, bergeron is just that good.

bergeron is pretty awesome, but sequin seems to have an edge when looking at some of the underlying info that wouldn't be colored by the 6 extra games he played

seguin's and marchand's corsi/fenwick were horrible with bergeron out (i saw the stat a week ago and now i can't find it -- i wanna say they were registering about 30% of all shot attempts while on the ice for that 6 game stretch). bergeron also has the disadvantage, i guess, of getting more d-zone starts b/c he can win draws. when he loses those draws, i have to imagine that hurts his numbers a bit. seguin and marchand both presumably saw time away from bergeron at times during the season, which would ease their matchups and help their numbers.

hmm, that's the most important thing that i was not able to really grasp or track down, how sequin really fared away from bergeron. mostly because the time away is sparse, and difficult to draw conclusions from. though, the fen/corsi numbers you posted are consistently bad, so there's probably something to that

awesome post man

As someone who doesn't know everything about the rest of the NHL, and not even that much about the Blackhawks... I'm guessing the fact that Detroit won tonight is about the best thing for Chicago - or not?

Well, Detroit is a puck control, finesse team like the Blackhawks, except about 10 years older.

Plus, Detroit doesn't employ Raffi Torres, so the Hawks can hopefully avoid a playoffs-ending injury to a top line player.

Yeah, reading the tea leaves, it's apparently good for the Blackhawks. Ducks had the Hawks' number in the regular season so having them out is supposedly good.

Not having to face a bona fide thug in Torres is a plus.

But, then again, Detroit showed some spunk in this series, coming back to win it. I don't really like the Hawks having to face a "hot" Wings team...

There's no easy way to the Stanley Cup, so this one is as good as any if you're a Chicago fan.

The choices were Detroit or a San Jose team that swept Vancouver. The hot team is San Jose.

You cannot.

It must have been a Freudian slip. I do not think the Wings will beat the Hawks. I do not think the season series was as one sided as the "sweep" would indicate though. The main difference between the Hawks and the Wings is the Wings lack goal scorers. Since the Hawks are the best team in the NHL at preventing goals, this is not going to be a good match up for the Wings.

Yeah, this is clearly the better matchup. Plus the rivalry factor should make for fun television. And some fun misery porn by reading the other teams message boards after a Hawks win. Though that swings both ways.

I'm happy with it. San Jose hot though, after dispatching the biggest choke-meisters in the NHL? Nay!

Yeah, I'd hate to be playing any team in the second round coming off a series victory.
