For living in the northeast, Jersey, you don't seem to like it much.

I don't live in Boston or Philly. I love it here.

Never having lived out there, I often times just think of the entire northeast as more similar than it probably actually is.

Philly and NY are so close, that it's amazing how quickly you really notice a difference in the region. Boston is further away. You also have the city/urban collar, suburbs and rural areas you'll see most anywhere else. They just overlap spheres of influence unlike other places.

Boston vs. Chicago/LA

Obviously the Hawks are the heavy favorites to come out of the west at this point but either series would be good.

Despite the sweep, I'm not overly scared of the Bruins, but I think a Bos/Chi series is a coin flip with a slight advantage to the Hawks for home ice. If its Bos/Chi I say Chi in 7 and for the sake of not jinxing, if its Bos/LA its Boston in 6.

Yeah...I probably could have worded that better. I'm not scared meaning I think the Hawks have a better than 50% chance of winning.

Pens fans spouting conspiracy theories. Boston is going to win the Cup because of what the city went thru with the bombing. And somehow the Patriots winning after 9/11 (not Skins, Jets or Giants) is part of the same conspiracy. Also included is Ray Lewis winning in his final year. They do conceed that the same was done for Bettis to win in his last year in his home town.

It's all in the name...of course the PATRIOTS are going to win. The Jets winning would just be in poor taste.

I think the amount of people who would have to know about these "conspiracies" make them extremely unlikely. At some point someone would say something and it would get out. A much more likely conspiracy is rigging the draft lottery or something like that. Figure that could be done with a very limited amount of people knowing. Even so the benefits do not out weigh the potential disaster getting caught would cost the sport. The funny thing about Pens fans thinking these things is that almost every other irrational NHL fan thinks the league does things that help the Pens succeed.

That's why I posted it. Pot vs. kettle.

I wonder if AV will get the Pens job. As I type this, somewhere in Pittsburgh someone is burning Bylsma in effigy. One of my Pens fan friends said that the Pens might try to get Bernier from the Kings and they're throwing around Malkin's name as trade bait since they can't pay him with the lower cap.

Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals between the Kings and Blackhawks on Saturday night drew a 2.9 overnight rating, the best ever for a Conference Final on NBC. Once again, the NHL managed to top MLB in primetime, with the Kings-Blackhawks game picking up 3.32 million viewers, a 2.9 overnight rating, and a 1.1 overnight rating in the 18-49 demo, while Fox's slate of MLB games drew 3.21 million viewers and a 0.7 overnight rating in the 18-49 demo. (UPDATE: MLB actually outrated the NHL in total overnight rating 3.2 to 2.9).

More ratings info at the link.

yeah, i could see vigneault going to the pens if bylsma's head rolls (which it probably should). i don't think bernier should be a target for them, some picks and a good-to-great defenseman is what they need, considering they're already paying 7 mil to goalies next year. marc-andre fleury's cristobal huet impression probably has more to do with a nonexistent defense than a newfound ability to tend goal cross-eyed

Penguins extend head coach Dan Bylsma (and assistants) through 2015-16 season

and extend malkin 8/76

They do this hoping that the cap will go up in a couple years. So what do they do in the mean time? What are Fernando Pisani and Nick Boyton up to these days?

Datsyuk gets a 3 year extension in Detroit.

Datsyuk had one year remaining on his current deal at a $6.7 million dollar cap hit. The new deal is for $22.5 million, for a cap hit of 7.5 million per season.

Couture got a five-year extension for $6M per?

Guess I didn't realize his stats were as good as they are, but still seems high.
