Vitters activated from the DL.

Loux placed on the DL with an ankle injury, so he won't be starting today for Iowa.

Guillermo Moscoso is up from extended spring training and will make the start.

Was cruising right along until giving up a massive HR right now. 6-1 Iowa in the 5th.

Brett with 3K's in 4PA today. I've always been very hopeful Brett would straighten himself out, but I find myself looking at May and June being a true make or break time for him. If he's K'ing 30% or more, I don't see him getting called up. I think Borbon would take DeJesus' AB's, if he gets dealt, in that scenario.

Looking like another Jim Hendry prospect flame-out

Everytime this comes up I keep going back to Wilkin's draft day description of Jackson's only flaw being a struggle to make contact or something like that. I would think that is one thing you can't teach by the time a guy has already played college baseball.

I remember that. I believe he also called him a poor man's Mark Kotsay, which is looking about right.

Harvey's first minor league season was in Daytona ( #-o ), and he had a 5.1% BB rate and a 24.7% K rate.

Baez is at 3.7% and 27.1%.

Ryan Harvey at 21 in A+ 24.7% K, 5.1% BB

Javier Baez at 20 in A+ this year 27.7% , 3.6%

The power is insane, the age is great for the leagues he's played in, but everything else has been horrorshow.

As a reference on struggling first rounders, I was really high on white sox prospect Courtney Hawkins coming into the season.

This line has me less excited.

Yes, that really is a 53.7% strikeout rate after 82 PA this season. On the bright side, it's down from the 60+% it was earlier in the year.

I'm not disagreeing with your post, but I'll add that last season he was at 5.8% and 24.4% at Daytona in a comparable amount of PA's as he's had this season. I'm also trying to make myself feel better that the ability to make contact is there considering the praise his hit tool got, it's just a matter of learning to lay off certain pitches. Now how true that is, I am not sure.

Still, I am scared.

Harvey didn't reach Daytona until his 4th professional season. Fangraphs just doesn't have MiLB stats that far back.

The other important difference is that production never showed up for Harvey, his greatest full season OPS as a Cub was .786 at Peoria. Dopirak is the much better cautionary tale, he at least had the decency to mash in the Midwest League before flaming out dramatically in Daytona.
