Sveum Suggests Sending Castro and Rizzo to AAA

Tribune"]“Find options,” Sveum said. “If people keep playing like that, you have to find options. Give people playing time at Triple-A to figure this stuff out.”

No one believes the Cubs would demote Castro, who is hitting .304, or Rizzo, who is at .190 but leads the team with five home runs.

It’s their defense that has Sveum up in arms.

Bruce Miles"]Sveum also alluded to sending players to the minor leagues if they don’t perform, but it’s almost impossible to imagine either Castro or first baseman Anthony Rizzo being sent to Iowa. The Cubs simply don’t have anybody down there who’s better.

“Find options,” Sveum said. “If people keep playing like that, you have to find options. Get people playing time in Triple-A to figure this stuff out.

“That’s why I make statements like I did yesterday, about we’ve got to perform at the big-league level. There’s reasons why people play in the big leagues and have long careers, because they perform on an everyday basis. The reason why a lot of minor-league players … they can’t perform at the big-league level. They’re pretty good. They’re really good players, but you put the third deck on the stadium, something happens. We’ve got to obviously find that out and make people aware that there are things that can be done if you don’t start performing.

“You have to perform. The bottom line is you have to perform. Whether you need more development, you decide all those things.

I don't see the big deal. He's just trying to motivate his players.

Kind of a disrespectful way of doing so, don't you think? Going to the media with that kind of musing won't build a lot of loyalty amongst the troops.

With unrealistic, silly threats?

And airing out in the media, as opposed to in the clubhouse.

You don't suppose this came up in the clubhouse earlier?

That is what I was thinking too.

Its poor form to call out your players in public like that, even if hes not happy with their play he should of kept in in house.

The way this team is playing baseball is in poor form so I think it balances out.

The ethos from the FO and owners is suck now and have a better future because of it, maybe Rizzo and Castro are buying into that a bit too much.

Am I missing the quotes that specifically mention castro and rizzo?

Apparently I am missing that too. None of the quotes I read in the OP mentions anyone specifically.

CSN just showed his quote. "...start becoming that prolific defensive shortstop that's there..."

I'm done with this team if that happens.

At some point doesn't Theo step in and prevent any insanity from happening?

It's not going to hsppen. First, its not Sveum's call, second, there are no replacements anyway. I like Sveum. That said, this was stupid, whether there are true quotes out there or not. He's frustrated and hates struggling. Handled it wrong here. But everyone will get over it and this [expletive] will be kept in house.

Pretty sure the manager doesn't send anyone down. There aren't a whole lot of people he could be talking about and I would think sitting them down would come first.

Also, I would also have to guess that this has been done face to face long before this became public.

Lot of frustration i'm sure.
