That is stupid, though Castro has sucked for a month now and I'm only now seeing it and feeling the pain it brings.

Huh?

Since 6/15

.282/.339/.409 (.748)

You and nuts have different definitions of suck, I guess....

well, whatever, the fact that like 3 days can change it that much should tell you how much it matters

I didn't say it was indicative of any larger issue; just that it makes me sad. There's so little we can enjoy right now.

Plus he has stunk pretty much that whole month minus the days you added, so, blech.

His OPS was over .800 I think during the Red Sox series, so it's been more like a bad week. A really bad one, but a week nonetheless.

And he answered the question in chat, Rizzo is yet to come, Castro is not.

Bogaerts 23

Todd: Why no Castro? Young, cheap contract, good performance thus far.

Dave Cameron: We have different definitions of good performance, I guess. He's an average player.

Thanks everyone for not quoting my previous posts on Cameron, those will be disappearing shortly.

Well that went from anticipation to payoff remarkably quickly.

Starlin Castro hasn't really been bad for a month; the week of 7/6 - 7/13 is bringing those numbers down. He had maintained an ~.800 OPS for awhile before that week.

his career high in WAR (which he'll probably match this year) is 3; i don't have too much of an issue with it, even though personally i'd probably have fit him somewhere toward the beginning of the list

He exceeded FG's definition of "good player" (which is what Cameron said he isn't) 2 times before his 23rd birthday and is well on his way to exceeding it again this year.

Scrub 0-1 WAR
Role Player 1-2 WAR
Solid Starter	2-3 WAR
Good Player 3-4 WAR
All-Star 4-5 WAR
Superstar 5-6 WAR
MVP 6+ WAR

I don't think you mean "exceeded". He has achieved that level, on the low end, twice. He has basically played 4.3 seasons and has averaged about 2.3 WAR on a per season basis, for whatever that is worth.

If Castro has peaked at 24 and is a 3 win player going forward, then he's still set to provide over 40 million in surplus value over the term of his contract(which includes a team option year that protects downside). Andrelton Simmons has basically an identical age, contract, and overall output this year, and he's only cracking 3 WAR if he can continue to be more than +20 with the glove(which exactly zero people do). He's #28. In essence, Castro's skillset isn't as sexy to some so last year is used as confirmation bias.

are we seriously calling a 24 year old 3-time all star SS average

Are you seriously using All star appearances as an argument?

*not that I disagree with your premise, just your reasoning.
