I'm finding this conversation way too amusing right now.

Here's my question...how the hell is that thing 400 lbs?

Posted

So I'm sure there are holes to the below post. If not fundamentally wrong I'm sure I didn't give enough attention and maybe harped on some things too much. But I figured it was how I felt and that my non-existent baseball IQ Facebook friends (all my FB friends) wouldn't initially know any better.

The Cubs were cruising along on the 100 year anniversary of Wrigley Field today. Until the 9th inning when they imploded and allowed 5 runs, ultimately losing 7-5. It's fitting for a franchise whose ballpark (the said celebrated) is literally falling apart. The ownership family that bought a team with a complex tax structure within the deal of the sale (one that has presumably been more complex/expensive than any of them anticipated). The Cubs payroll continues to decline. Just like attendance/viewership and overall interest in the club.

The city of Chicago won't fund any renovations to the stadium. Even though every single other MLB ballpark has public funding. Chicago politicians have proved pointless in this effort. The Cubs have tried to add advertising revenue streams to the renovation plans but it's only been met with litigation threats from the cross-street rooftops owners. The same owners who see a direct line of income with the success of the team.

So, we, us die-hard fans, cling tightly to the "youth movement". The Cubs have placed all their chips on these (cheap) 18-21 year-olds. When - and more importantly IF - these kids manifest talent at the MLB level is yet to be seen.

But, after this long rant, I'll be no less interested in tomorrow's outcome and box score than I was today. Sucks sometimes to be a fan. I can't imagine how amazing it will feel to win it all one day. In fact, I've forbid my mind from going to such places.

I'm guessing 13 man staff will be around until Villanueva cycles into the pen in favor of Arrieta rather than have essentially an 11 man staff for those 3 days. After that...Vitters?

Him, Szczur, and Watkins are really the only 3 choices of guys already on the 40 man. I'd have to think that would be the choice since none of them are exactly tearing up AAA.

That's my guess. If not for Watkins .500ish OPS, I would have went with him. He can't even find playing time at Iowa, I could see him getting taken off the 40 man relatively soon.

Wow, never mind. Guess they said they'll go with 13 pitchers until Ruggiano comes back.

Those plans can change in a game or two. Lose a couple games 2-1 without much bullpen usage, and/or have a player getting dinged up but not enough for the DL and things can change.

roster management is the easiest part of the front office's job and with a smart bunch of guys like we have there's no way we'll screw it up

Some things are just out of their hands, like hitting with RISP and the bullpen.

There is too much Cake Boss in my life. I walk by the damn store every day. The hotel across the street from my office has a couple of his cakes on display for some reason, and now he's getting into my Cubs following.

Buddy is killing independent jersey cubs fan.
