I'm just flabbergasted that newspapers continue to pay these idiots to write articles like that. It's no wonder nobody reads papers any more.

It's really frustrating that there are no shortage of idiots to smack around the Cubs front office, yet nobody will touch the decrease in Tom Rickett's daily allowance the past few seasons.

I'll see smaller comments-"until Ricketts quits acting like a mid market owner" but that's the extent. Mostly from Mooney. Wittenmyer has been all over the debt issues though and while not voicing his own opinion, does have quotes basically calling Ricketts a moron.

Again, he's not a moron for being willing to accept terms on a deal that others didn't in order to close the deal for himself and substantially improve his chances at owning the team, for which he is almost unquestionably better off.

It [expletive] SUCKS for us, but the people calling him stupid for it are [expletive] ridiculous.

I'm not saying he is, I understand that line of thinking. The quotes basically call him naive and/or raked over a barrel. Either way- It does suck for us.

You can call him stupid for all the assumptions he made when taking on this shitty deal.

Yeah, if there was anything resembling an assumption that the government of the city of Chicago would be financially helpful toward the Cubs, that is stupid. Very very stupid.

I agree with both of you on that part.

That said, what has transpired seems like it has been a worst case scenario of [expletive].

Yup. For the longest time I defended the Ricketts on that, thinking there was no way they were actually banking on big money from the city, but it's become painfully clear they they were counting on that and counting on being able to do what they need to do construction/renovation-wise ASAP, which shows a woeful miscalculation of who they were dealing with.

I'm not so sure about that. He's mostly had support from the mayor throughout the process. But Emanuel wasn't elected until two years after the entire bidding process went down. The bidding process also took place during a horrible financial crisis. He's lucky the economy rebounded enough to allow the team to stay afloat financially while they put 90+ loss teams out there.

I don't think you can just chalk this process up to worst case scenario. The headwinds were obvious all along. They had the rooftop contract and plenty of history showing how difficult it has been for the Cubs to do what they want with the stadium.

I don't think that Telander rant is going to be one-of-a-kind, so get ready. Especially if things don't go well next year.

We're one week short of the 10-year anniversary of the last Cubs playoff victory. With the Pirates winning the Wild Card game, that's something every team in the division (including the Astros) have done since.

ESPNChicago.com tells me that today is 10 years since the 2003 NLCS Game 6

a.k.a. - The day Dusty left Mark Prior in too long.

a.k.a. - The day Alex Gonzalez forgot how to field routine grounders.

I was a freshman in college, sitting in my UIC dorm room trying to figure out when the best time to hop on the train and head to Wrigley was...

Only 3 MLB teams have not won a playoff game since then (all AL):

Toronto

Kansas City

Seattle
