Bruce Pearl to Auburn. They will be the 3rd best team in the SEC very, very soon. He's a douche and I know the backstory about the Illinois thing, so save the stories, but he is a heck of a basketball coach. Good for Auburn.

Well, there's the violations at Tennessee, too. That's kind of vital to the backstory of what a douche he is.

Those Tennessee violations happen at every single program multiple times per year. He got caught and lied is basically the only difference.

And then told his recruits to lie. Probably just a one time thing though

All Bruce Pearl needs is a second chance. He'll never go wrong again.

UT fans still love him, it's disgusting.

Well, the people that don't care for Purdue can have a little smile at this. Point guard Ronnie Johnson is transferring.

If Hammons ends up going to the draft (possible although I'm not sure he wants to contend with this ridiculous draft class), that would leave Purdue without their top three scorers (Hammons, Johnson, and Johnson) after a year when they finished dead last in the conference. They'll also be losing Juco transfers Peck and Carter who played significant minutes. Oh yeah, and Jay Simpson who looked promising will not be playing because he enjoys living.

What a truly miserable era of Purdue basketball...

Ronnie needed to go it sounds like. Apparently he was ignoring Painter and listening to his ex-con dad about how to play, throwing up jumpers from just inside the 3-point line with most of the shot clock left, wild drives to the hoop.... I guess their dad wrote letters from prison to other D1 programs trying to keep Terone's recruitment open after he had signed at Purdue. Just weird behind the scenes stuff that I was never aware of.

Peck and Carter were 5th year transfers not JUCOs. We're really going to be thin at PG next year unless Painter digs someone up but I certainly won't miss the Johnson brothers era. Painter has to be squarely on the hot seat next year. I think he has a big buyout though so it's not like he's going anywhere soon. Hell, our athletic department won't even put up lights at Ross Ade.

I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with this except for past butthurt. Pearl is a great basketball coach and an awful human being. Basically the same as 90% of the coaches out there.

Perspective: Auburn has made 8 NCAA tournaments in their entire hundred year history, including 4 sweet 16s and 1 elite 8. Pearl has made 8 NCAA tournaments in 10 years coaching at D1 level, including 4 Sweet 16s and 1 Elite 8. It's a no brainer hire even if he gets banned from coaching for life 4 years from now.

If everyone does what Pearl does, is he just extremely unlucky with getting caught on the shenanigans then?

The SEC clearly doesn't care about rules and Auburn has been given reason to believe they are invulnerable from sanctions. Why would they care about hiring an [expletive]?

I write this while sitting at a bar in Alabama hoping nobody is looking over my shoulder, btw.

I've never been a fan of Jay Jacobs but following the Malzahn hire with Bruce Pearl is pretty strong. It's been a long time since I've been excited about Auburn basketball.

Haven't heard from Iowa fans this week - how nervous and psychotic are they right now?

I love when Iowa sports play on TV, my girlfriend gets too nervous to watch and starts cleaning the condo.

My Iowa buddy always goes to Vegas for the opening weekend of the tourney. He booked his airfare months back and he'll be on the plane tonight when they're playing. That really sucks.

I'm extremely excited for the Iowa game tonight. More than I thought I'd be considering there hasn't been much reason for excitement lately and it's the play-in game but it's been a while since we've played in any NCAA tournament game and the last one they played in was that stupid Northwestern State game.

Man that was really the last one?

It's a really weird scenario for Iowa fans. On one hand its very deflating to fall short of high preseason expectations, the way they ended the season is just miserable, and the fact that your big return to the tourney is a play-in game when you've been a lock for weeks is a bit depressing. But on the other hand, there were some pretty bad years for Iowa, and this is much much better than those years, and then you factor in McCaffery's kid and the hope that if Iowa can somehow wake up they definitely have S16/E8 talent and can make a run.

It sure was. Haven't won a game in it since 2001.

Emotionally, the losing streak helps me out going into the tournament. Now I have no expectations but at the same time I know this team can turn on the light switch and make a run. Makes it so I'm excited but I'm still not experiencing crippling fear, which is nice.

I was in Vegas for that one, what a kick to the nuts...fade away 3 from the corner.

I agree that Iowa can make a run possibly, certainly can beat UMass...the problem is going to be winning the first one tonight, Tennessee has really good peripherals they've just had the same problem as Iowa I believe in getting over the hump and beating good teams in close games.

Either way my place will be clean at the end of the night. Scrub away baby and do some laundry while you're at it.
