Purdue had two football players suspended for stealing tie clips from KOHLS. Wtf?

GANGSTA

Sumlin played at Purdue, you can blame any A&M corruption on Sumlin passing through our troubled program.

Vonleh looks good. Painter will refuse to play zone against IU.

Probably better than IU fans wanted him to be (though Purdue fans may be happy about that). Kid is a rebounding machine. He's a short-timer in college.

I'd say there is a good chance Purdue beats IU this year regardless of what defense is played, considering the only matchup is at Mackey. But Painter would be well-advised to play zone against IU. As should pretty much every team at this point (and likely all points, this team is not going to be a great outside shooting team).

Painter won't play zone and we're not a great rebounding team despite having a big front line. The game will be a blood bath in the paint as that's how we're scoring most of our points as well. It will turn into a free throw shooting contest and Purdue is awful at that again. I don't like our chances. Maybe we'll get lucky with some home cooking.

After last night, I think you gotta mix it up. IU dominated the boards when Washington went to zone. At one point, they were like 11-30 shooting but had a 13-point lead because of all the 2nd chance points. I think teams can only stay in zone if they are really good at it. Syracuse is going to kick IU's asses playing zone. But other teams might be playing into their hands by opening up the offensive glass.

I think "blood bath" will be an accurate description. Not sure that's a game IU wins, especially at Mackey. Last night, Perris Blackwell (6-foot-9, 275 pounds) gave IU and Vonleh trouble. He had fourteen points and ten rebounds, and Vonleh picked up four fouls in the process. A.J. Hammons is obviously bigger and better than Blackwell, and I'm not sure IU will have much of an answer for him (they certainly didn't last year at Mackey!). And while IU has shot well from the foul line so far (seventy-three percent), I'm not entirely sure that will continue in closer games against better opponents--especially on the road, and especially once they've been beat up during the game.

Not sure how much Blackwell gave them trouble. Guard penetration gave them trouble. Blackwell was just there to clean the mess. And Vonleh had a 18 points and 9 boards against him. IU got to the rim at will and dominated on the boards.

I agree that IU's biggest issue last night was their abysmal defense of dribble penetration. But extrapolating Blackwell's performance causes me concern for players like Hammons. I'd say fourteen points and ten rebounds comprises "trouble"--especially considering Blackwell is nobody's idea of a star. Further, while Vonleh still had an excellent game, if he goes to the bench in foul trouble early at Purdue (and he did pick up two first half fouls last night) . . . well, Hammons may have a repeat of last year's game.

I'm hoping Vonleh sticks around for a sophomore season. What are the odds he's one and done?

I think it's becoming more possible every game that he's one-and-done. Obviously, he has yet to play upper echelon talent, but he looks very much the part of a big-time pro prospect. While he is a step below the upper tier prospects, he very well could find himself at the top of the second tier. If so, it's hard to expect him to return. I sure hope he does though.

Luckily for IU it's a loaded draft maybe you'll get a break and have him stay because of that.

Yeah, I didn't think Vonleh would be this good, this fast. He actually has been pretty weak finishing. Not that he goes up weak, but the ball just isn't going in on as many of the bunnies as they should/will.

I don't feel he's as polished or as hyped as Zeller was as a Freshman and he stayed. I'm guessing we'll get a 2nd year out of him and that's it. Of course, I might be clouded by how amazing next year's team would be if he continues to get better and Yogi makes another leap.

Right, that helps a lot. He has a ceiling in this year's draft that he would not have most years. From what I've seen--and, again, it's always difficult to tell after five games against less-than-stellar competition--he would have been drafted very highly last year. He's a better pro prospect than Zeller, surely.

Guys generally only make one leap. This is probably what Yogi is going to be, sans small, incremental improvements.

True. I shouldn't have said "leap".

Georgetown pounding K State.

I'm watching, Joshua Smith is so talented, it's a shame he's been out of shape for his entire career.

Sigh.

He's looking like a potential lottery pick even in the loaded draft.

What's the money difference from the back of the lottery to a Top 5 pick? I'd prefer he go. :D

Been a rough start for old Brucey. Combined with their awful end to last season, I'm sure many UI fans are cackling with happiness.

More of a knowing chuckle, really.

Well, having a final shot to win when one of your best players is scoreless and only plays like 7 minutes due to fouls on screens is about the best you can hope for.

I honestly felt like IU was the better team. Crean failed in trying to match their quickness instead of playing his best players. Not sure why Williams wasn't playing in the 2nd half. Especially when Etherington actually got on the court. Both Perea and Fischer were effective in the first half with their size, and neither played until Fischer got in late in the 2nd.
