Since we are dumpster diving for third basemen, where is Kevin Orie and Gary Scott? :hello:

Neither of them have played organized baseball in quite some time. I don't think signing either would be a very good idea.

hahaha

no organized ball? sounds like a good fit for this roster.

What are your guys' thoughts on Julio Borbon? Think the Cubs would be interested? Should they be?

They supposedly are interested in him, not as much as Balt. right now. I don't think I'd give up any arms for him and would probably have Sweeney up there instead of him.

As a player Borbon may be a slight upgrade over Sappelt, but just as the case was with Sweeney, there's no playing time out there for a LH OF who is not better than DeJesus.

@BleacherNation 30s

Wow. Wonder who gets 40-man boot. RT @JonHeymanCBS #cubs acquire julio borbon

Interesting addition, idk how he exactly fits on our current roster. Sappelt possibly getting cut or Fukijawa going to the 60 day DL?

Sappelt is there because he (presumably) can hit lefties, though. Borbon can't and would seem to have a hard time getting playing time ahead of the already platooning Schierholtz and DeJesus.

That sure seems pointless.

If there is one thing this team does not need in the slightest, it's left-handed outfielders.

DeJesus and Schierholtz both need RH platoon caddies and have them. Ryan Sweeney is a (imo) slight better version of Borbon at Iowa. And presumably Brett Jackson will get some MLB time by the end of the year.

I'm having trouble imagining anything that would be more redundant in this organization than a mediocre backup left-handed outfielder.

More than that, there's not an immediately obvious guy to dump from the 40 man roster to make room for him. The only current outfielder that would remotely make sense is Szczur. There's a couple pitcher possibilities with Raley(great start in AAA), Rusin(one of 4 LHP on the 40 man), and Loe(thanks for stopping by!), but nothing that jumps out at you. The 15 to 60 day DL candidates are Garza(unlikely), Stewart(even more unlikely), and Fujikawa(please no), so that would be a surprise too.

EDIT: Wait, Borbon has to be on the 25 man roster? There has to be some sort of planned move that this is going to cover for.

Wonder if there's a trade coming.

I would imagine Ransom or Lillibridge would get booted.

Ransom could make sense if they really value Barney and Valbuena's flexibility. With both back on the roster and an actual 3B option coming soon in Stewart, I could see them going with 5 IF. I mentioned the possibility in ST, except with Bogusevic instead of Borbon, and for as redundant as Borbon is, he's probably better than Bogusevic.

Borbon is probably better than Sappelt, but it doesn't make a lot of sense. It'd be kind of funny if Ransom got DFA'd already. Maybe Stewart gets pushed back up sooner? DeJesus trade? No idea, but kind of an interesting claim.

Gonzalez has been DFA'd, per the Cubs on Twitter.

So Ransom > Gonzalez? I mean, in the macro view there's little difference here, but I prefer Gonzalez's skillset I suppose.
