Yeah he didn't hit the ball off anyone's fingers. The refs ruined yet another tourney game

it was pretty obvious

live it looked like it was off kadji and the first couple replays looked like it was clearly off him, but the other angle was 100% conclusive

What channel did they show that angle on? The ball would've spun if he hit it off Paul's fingers.

Putting the disappointment of tonight's loss aside, this was still a very good season for Illinois. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from Groce, but he has proven that he can be a successful coach in a major conference. The future looks bright, especially if he can continue to recruit classes like the one coming in 2013. Losing Paul is going to hurt and next year's team may take a slight step back, but I am confident that good things are ahead in 2014 and beyond.

Yet you're the only person on here who saw it, and nobody on TNT saw it either.

He must have access to the "All-22".

I'm with imb. Maybe not AS emphatic, but there definitely was a replay on it that made me think that it was the right call. They showed it twice. Again, I'm not sure it was conclusive, by any stretch, but that one angle did make it appear they got it right to me.

In real time, I thought it was a terrible call. When they showed the 3rd replay (sort of from the top and zoomed in), I could see how you might think paul's fingertips grazed the ball as it was going out--but it was really inconclusive on the replay. However, I just went back and re-watched it on the DVR, and I think the 2nd replay (from behind on the baseline) is conclusive that Paul didn't touch it. His hand was already past the ball when the miami guy was still pushing it forward.

Either way it shouldn't matter. There was no way that ref was calling it out on Illinois because he thought paul might have grazed it (and I think that was the point of IMB's post where he still said he got it wrong).

Man as much as I was happy with DJ last game, he was frustrating tonight. Missed everything and then didn't foul the fat guy when only down two at the end. The entire stadium was yelling to foul him. No one could believe he was the one that got the ball.

I just watched the replay about 10 times. I cannot understand what you're looking at imb. The ball didn't change direction, didn't spin out, and Paul's hand wasn't in the proper spot to have grazed it. His horrified reaction at the call (and the Miami goon's [expletive] eating grin) certainly looked legit as well.

Watching that game, I felt like I'd rather play Miami. We have no answer for Paul, but we just beat a better team than Miami in Butler.

I think Illinois defended extremely well. I wouldn't be surprised to see other teams use the same approach. It was an excellent game plan.

This is the first time the Sweet 16 has had three teams seeded 12th or lower.

I told you, John Groce is a stud. This team had no business doing what it did this year.

MQ has less business being in the Sweet 16 than any team left.

Wow! That was rough. For me game ball goes to Remy Abell. He had to play some big minutes and I thought he really frustrated Wyatt late in the 2nd half and early in the 1st. He started to force some things, though did get a lot of them to fall. Also, Hulls +/- had to be huge.

Exhale. I've said all year long I was really worried about the second game. Fran Dunphy is a really good coach so I'm not surprised he had the blueprint; I am,however, surprised Temple (102nd in defensive efficiency, 200th in offensive rebounding percentage, and 139th in tempo) had the capacity to do that. Fortunately, they really only have one good player, any more and they win. I'm also pretty surprised IU won, as this is the first time all year they've won such a game.

Syracuse should be interesting. It's hard for me to say if it's a really bad or a really good match-up. They are big and athletic, and offensive rebound very well. They play excellent defense and are a slower tempo team. On the flip side, they're not the muck-it-up halfcourt style team that has given IU the most fits. And IU has some things they should be able to do well against the zone. Zeller/Watford/Sheehey should be able to cause damage at the free throw line shooting (latter two) and passing out to shooters (former two, hopefully all three). Louisville offers up a great blueprint in the second half of the Big East Championship Game with Dieng at the free throw line. I'm also glad IU is playing Syracuse the first game of a weekend, so they have longer to prepare (Crean is very good at game-planning, it's adjustments that are an issue). It should be interesting.

On Illinois, I thought in real time and replay the ball was clearly off Miami. It's even worse than that, though, because in general that is the exact kind of close call the officials almost always will defer to the offensive team (especially if that team is losing). (Though perhaps there is

some angle proves imb right?)
