**Still has closet hope for Brad Zimmer**

I admittedly don't follow the draft super closely, but I'm skeptical of the limits that people put on the ceilings of some of these guys. I think we treat those reports as gospel a little too much, remember when Michael Wacha fell because he was polished but had limited upside? I don't know how/if that applies to Nola, but I have no reason to doubt McLeod and Co yet so I'll probably be fine with whoever they go with*.

I don't see any way the Cubs take Finnegan - that strikes me as BA pretty much talking out of their backside.

Personally, I still think Turner is going to be a terrific major league player and I wouldn't go by what Law says, as he's disliked Turner all along. I don't see the Cubs taking him at 4 but I think it'd be a good pick. More realistically, I'd sooner take Jackson on BPA grounds than a deep reach for the 4th-best pitcher in a three-pitcher draft.

Remember when Erick Fedde didn't pitch last weekend just because UNLV was playing a non-conference opponent? Yeah, we were right to think that reasoning was BS.

@keithlaw: UNLV RHP Erick Fedde won't pitch this weekend either due to a tender elbow.

Time to knock Fedde off my list of hopefuls at 1.4.

Potential target for the Cubs 2nd round pick:

@keithlaw: Prep RHP Scott Blewett, another likely first rounder, to skip a start due to shoulder stiffness.

Like when he's doing pretty great and we call him "Great Scott"?

Whoever takes Hoffman between picks 20-40 is going to get lauded for having a great draft. If he were willing to take 2.5-3 mill, I think I'd still be interested in him at 4. Especially if our draft board looks like Kiley's, where there's a big separator from 4 to 5 and 5 to 25 are very close anyway.

As someone who is inclined to pick bat anyway, there is no way I'd be happy with a reach on a pitcher at #4.

Jackson is my man now. He's the next Johnny Bench, I'm pretty sure.

Having said that here is a question:

If the drop off to the next best guy available at 4 is so large would it behoove the Cubs to take Hoffman and treat him like a high school pitcher in terms of development?

I asked that as well earlier. Especially if you can get Hoffman at a large under slot. I'd do it, if the difference from 4 to 5 is huge on your board.

Raisin what do you have against Nola?

Lower ceiling but still has the same scary floor all pitchers have. And most pitchers tend to lose a bit off their FB when they go from 6 days rest in college to 4 days in the pros. I'm also worried that his arm slot will make him struggle more against pro RHB.

ETA: Tangled's link touched on that latter point.

The return rate from TJS isn't *that* high. No, you can't just take him anyway.

If you're getting him at 2.5-3 mill and he's worlds higher than 5 on your board.....And 5-25 are extremely close, you certainly can. And probably still get one of your next group too.

He's not worlds higher than No. 5 on your board because his elbow is not intact.

With Hoffman out, I'm starting to lean towards Zimmer. Although given Jackson has been linked to the Cubs for a year, it wouldn't surprise me if they took him.

Rodon slipping to the Cubs would be great.
