Hawks now have 3 more points than any other team in the NHL in the least despite playing 8 of their first 10 on the road.

Remember how we were talking about how difficult the schedule was to start the year and how we had to weather the storm until we got to a patch of home games? After 2 more road games the Hawks will literally not have to leave Chicago from Feb 11 to Feb 27.

not to mention they've already beaten pretty much every team in the west that might be considered an early cup contender.

Apparently the NHL rescinded the match penalty for Desjardins.

That's fair. It was a bad call. If you want to call a charging minor for going after a "defenseless" player, that's fine I guess, although I don't know that the rules call for that.

He got him high up in the shoulder area. There may have been a little contact with the head, but not much. And he didn't leave his feet until after the contact when he was falling down.

If a Hawk player got a penalty at all for that, I'd have been ranting and raving about how the league might as well go no-check.

What are you one of those nutso Steelers fans who pretend that cutting down on cheap hits equates to sissification?

Yeah, probably.

But really if they are going to call a penalty on every hard check, it is sissification. I like that word.

Its ridiculous that fighting in hockey is tolerated.

I was at a Milwaukee Admirals game last Friday and one of the Chicago Wolves players ran the Ads goalie. The Ads defensemen did nothing about it. I explained to my fiancee that the defenseman standing next to the goalie should've immediately started punching the Wolves player in the face. The lady next to us looked horrified.

I'm not denying it.

Should have been an interference call, actually. Mayers didn't have the puck, and Desjardins hit him and so ensured Mayers couldn't play the puck. Otherwise, it was a shoulder hit. Personally, I thought it should have been double minors -- instigating + roughing for Keith and interference + roughing for Desjardins.

Keith's response was fine. The Hawks are sensitive about the Sharks -- they were the team that concussed Toews last year, and anything like that was going to draw an immediate response.

Is tomorrow's game going to be extra physical with the Hawks targeting Torres? Hossa has moved on, Q says payback is winning the game, but I think Torres is going to get hammered early.

agreed. torres is irrelevant to this league. i hate doan more anyways

Was looking farther out at the schedule. After the Hawks get home Sunday night, their only road trips between then and March 7 are to Detroit and St. Louis. I like this season.

Yeah...and I'm loving the short season. it's like the NBA last year. In a perfect world, both would shorten their seasons significantly, but too much money involved. Enjoy it while it lasts.

So, does Torres expect Chicago to pay him any special attention?

“Whatever happens out there, happens out there,” he told reporters today, per the Chicago Tribune. “I’m sure they just want to go out there and pick up the ‘W.’ It’s a good test for us. We got a good team coming in here, the best team in the league right now I think.”

And what about the commitment he made to clean up his act? How’s that going?

“We have to protect the top players in the league,” he said. “If it’s going to take me thinking out there instead of running around with my head cut off, then that’s what it’s going to take. If I want to keep playing in this league, I’m going to have to change the way [i play].”

Yeah he's been putting that line out there for awhile about changing the way he plays. We'll see.

If we are going to get "revenge," just send Bollig out to fight him. I don't want anyone getting suspended trying to kill the guy.

I feel like any street justice would take place on home ice. If Torres is who he's always been, they'll get him but not tonight. When the Coyotes come to the UC if you see that the 4th line is Bollig, Beach and Morin than you'll know that they're going to try to kill him.

This is when fighting should occur. Someone on the ice needs to step up for their teammate in these cases. Not 8 shifts later whenever a team can get their goon out there against the guy. Also, is there anything more stupid than the trend of two goons starting the game with a fight.

What else can he offer, other than trading a suspension for putting the other team's star out of action?
