I have no problem with the shootout. Most people seem to like it.

Want to know why the PK is so incredible so far this year:

@The1Tab: #Blackhawks Stat of the Morning II: Jonathan Toews has won 11 of 13 faceoffs (84.6%) while short-handed thru last night

Both goals last night for the Wild came off them winning a face off in the Hawks zone though, unfortunately. Not short-handed though, obviously.

Kruger has gotten a lot better on the dot too, though he really had nowhere to go but up. I may have imagined it but I could have sworn that one of the announcers said that Bolland was really good on the faceoff. It had to be Pierre, since that's completely wrong.

One thing I like about being an extremely casual hockey fan is that I find Pierre McGuire's weirdo creepiness funny rather than annoying

Haha it's true. I love that guy though the knowledge he has is just incredible.

Luongo starting again tomorrow night. Gillis has screwed up this goalie situation up there so bad.

The Chicago Blackhawks traded forward Peter LeBlanc to the Washington Capitals Thursday for future considerations.

The 24-year-old LeBlanc has four goals and eight assists in 34 games with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League this season.

The IceHogs also acquired Mathieu Beaudoin from the Hershey Bears in exchange for future considerations. Beaudoin has three goals and seven assists in 32 games with Hershey.

the shootout rules, as long as the blackhawks didn't just lose in one. i wouldn't want it anywhere near the postseason though.

I think it will eventually. I am sure they will always have at least one full OT period though. Maybe another 5 min 4 on 4 then a shootout. I think there will be some fluke year with 3 or more triple OT games and TV will demand that they do something.

Shootouts in the playoffs would ruin one of the coolest things about playoff hockey. I'd have a hard time watching non-Blackhawks games at that point.

I don't think TV hates it all that much, and I think they are much more likely to do something like breakdown the 2nd/3rd OTs into short duration than have a shootout. We're talking about a program that airs in the middle of the summer, when there's virtually nothing else on. And most games are on cable stations and not networks, so I don't see the issue.

I don't disagree, I am just saying that once they allowed them in the regular season it would just be a matter of time. I understand TVs position, I just think it would suck. I also think a lot of teams would rather gamble with a shootout than a triple OT game.

Could be right. They do not have any TV timeouts in OT, so it seems that the powers to be would just as soon that it finished as soon as possible than get ads on, so I just assumed they wanted them over. Of course NHLN and NBCSN are different animals than ESPN.

I think you're way off on this. It makes sense during the regular season to not have games going forever, but during the playoffs, extra overtimes draw more eyeballs. I'm sure the networks love it.

Couldn't they just come to an agreement that they have normal commercial breaks during the OT? While it would take away from some of the drama, I think there would be upside in giving the players a bit of a breather. Some of those games get so sloppy once you get into 3rd overtimes.

20 minutes with no ads is rough, but OT hockey is compelling tv, which should make banner ads more valuable during that time. They could always negotiate in extras for that. Plus, if you go through one 20-minute OT period, you could always chop the next into 15 or 12 minute chunks, with a more brief intermission so you run 2+ minutes of ads right after the period, a brief studio report and then more ads before starting up the next period.

I understand that OT hockey is compelling TV, but would playoff shootouts be equally as compelling(especially to people who currently do not watch)? Is there data that shows that games pick up more viewers in OT? Anyway I googled "Should NHL have shootouts in playoffs" and there was only relevant response, so this is not something that is changing soon. It is just a feeling that I have had since they added shootouts.

@nhlrulebook: Congratulations to Gary Bettman on his 20th anniversary of officially becoming NHL commissioner! What a wonderful 18 seasons it's been!

Feels like a big game tonight. Torching Luongo I'm Vancouver one more time would be great.

Hilarious. For a second I was going to contradict the 18 seasons thing but obviously he is considering this season and 1995 half seasons.
