Today's Tribune speculates on some White Sox rumors. They seem to be looking for a LH hitter (with some power I would think) and bullpen help. I don't see how we match up unless there was a way to include another team, but Viciedo's numbers and age would look good on the Cubs.

Is it his half a win in almost 150 games last year that intrigues you?

I'm guessing it's the 25 HRs and history of playing 3b.

And despite that he was, like, really bad.

and history of playing 3b.

Not much of a relevant history is it?

Yeah, if he could actually play 3B, I'm guessing the White Sox wouldn't have signed Jeff Keppinger.

Floyd could be a smart acquisition if we could get him to agree to an extension as part of the deal.

Even if that's true, that still would make him a major upgrade over what we have now at 3b.

I'm not saying we must have him, but I think there's a little more to it than glancing as his fWAR and calling it a day.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that whatever value is gained at the plate will be given away by him being absolutely abysmal at 3B.

The fact that the Sox have had to bring in 3B twice in the last year probably tells us all we need to know about Viciedo's ability to man the position.

UZR has him as a -18 fielder at third base in about 20 games there in 2010. He's played LF almost exclusively since then, where he's also below average. His nickname is "tank", and despite the HR he's not an overly productive hitter to make up for him being woefully out of position at 3B. He wouldn't be any better than what we currently have.

I was looking at Floyd's production and was surprised that it was not as bad as the White Sox fan perception makes it out to be. I am not advocating trading anything for him, just saying he is a quality end of rotation starter.

My God, you're as delusional as you are hideous.

Guy hits 25 home runs a decade ago and has his wrist surgically removed: UPSIDE!

Guy hits 25 home runs last year: No use for him.

But yeah, if he can't play 3b, never mind.

You're really letting this stupid bit/character you feel you have to play punch your brain in the balls. You're really just going to keep dropping "BUT HE HIT 25 HOME RUNSSSSSSSSS!!!" out there like that?

Why wouldn't we want Viciedo? He's about to be a 24 year old, power hitting OF.

Sign me up for a yes.

I'd have no problem getting him for the right deal (namely they don't give up much of anything) if they think they can improve his monstrous defense to, y'know, actually make him useful. I just doubt that's really doable since he's a big fat load.

I cannot stress this enough... Half a win in 147 games. That's really, really bad. 147 games in which he managed to hit 25 HR. And he was playing the easiest position we could reasonably expect him to play for us (so it's not like there's hidden value to be found by switching his position).

His BABIP wasn't crazy high. That's about all the positive I can muster up.

I just think he's going to improve offensively.

We all have tons of Vogelbach love, it's not like he's going to be any better in the field. If he hits 40+ HR it's less of a factor, but I think Viciedo will hit 30-35.
