theo is going to sweat bourn out and get him for a really good deal, isnt he

That's what I'm thinking. Which is awesome, because the only reservation I had about Bourn was the contract (both dollars and years).

I think the Rangers can get by without adding anyone. They can play Olt in LF. They can move Kinsler out there and put Profar at 2B. I'll be a little surprised if they make a move for an OFer until these things have been proven ineffective.

Ronny cedeno appears headed to the #STLCards

In 2012, the Cardinals broke a streak of 13 consecutive seasons where they had a former Cubs middle infielder on their roster.

Guess they figure it's time to get back up on that horse.

I gotta play this game...

2011 - Theriot

2010 - Miles

2009 - DeRosa

2008 - Izturis

2007 - Cairo (looked up)

2006 - Vizcaino

2005 - Grudz

2004 - Womack (looked up)

2003 - Cairo (looked up)

2002 - Cairo (looked up)

2001 - Cairo (looked up)

2000 - Dunston

1999 - Dunston

Amazing that from 2004 to 2011 it was a different player who played there exactly one season (Miles did play several years with STL prior to playing for the Cubs, but only played one year after being a former Cub).

I completely forgot about Jose Vizcaino... looked up his numbers and forgot just how bad he was at offense. Highest OPS+ for any team was 99 in 1996 for the Mets... unless you count his final year at the age of 38 in St. Louis where, after being traded midseason from San Francisco when he put up a 47 OPS+ in 64 games, he had a 148 OPS+ in a small sample size of 16 games.

Whenever I think about Vizcaino, I hear Harry saying his name for some reason. One of those early 90's cubs that I will always remember due to being 10-12 years old and collecting baseball cards and having 95% of my knowledge of baseball come from watching Cubs games even though he wasnt that good. It took me awhile to realize that he was the same Vizcaino as the one playing on the Cardinals/Astros in the mid-aughts. Other players in a similar place in my head include Steve Buchelle, Chuck McElroy, Rick Wilkins and Hector Villenueva (catchers are always the coolest position when you're a kid).

Heathcliff Slocumb for me. Rick Wilkins... we hardly knew ye. His 1993 was pretty [expletive] amazing

Had a back injury and only ever played one more full season the rest of his career. Ended up trading him to the Astros for Scott Servais and Luis Gonzalez.

Sanchez

All things considered, it's pretty amazing that he never played for the Cardinals.

I think Im going to put up a sporacle quiz 'click on the crappy middle infielders who once played for the cardinals'. Rey Sanchez is a good one because he just seems like a player who would have played for them.

I always like Vizcaino and Terry Mulholland for some reason.

Getting on the nostalgia train ... when I collected baseball cards in my youth, one of my first was that of Jim Bullinger and for some reason, that name always stuck with me (actually, had I stayed in Virginia any longer, I might've been a Mets fan ... all my cards were packed with Mets prospects back in the day, Tim Teufel being one I got a ton).

I had a pile of Leon Durham cards and a pile of Ron Cey (Dodgers).

Jed Lowrie to the A's for Brad Peacock, Chris Carter and Max Stassi.

That's a really good trade for the Astros. Carter is a good potential DH for them

Collected all of the 84' Cubs, including the prized Davey Lopes "Now with Cubs" card.

Nice for the A's as well. They have no shortage of 1B/DH types of young pitching or pitching prospects. They do have a notable need for infielders of the non-noodle bat variety. Lowrie fits that criteria, and is only 28. While Peacock and Carter may be younger with upside, Lowrie gives the A's what they need now with some big league success under his belt.

I'm that at this point, Bour's going to wait it out until the final weeks of Spring Training. Sure, he could sign 1 year self gamble contract now, in which case he'd have no shortage of suitors. However, if he waits it out, his value certainly isn't likely to drop, but teams will have an idea of how their current CF option is working out. If there are teams that look to be in need, he can either again look for a longer term deal, probably 3-4 years or worst case scenerio he goes with a 1 year at a higher dollar amount and hopefully an option or 2.

If teams are hesitant(they are) to give up their first rounder for him, why would they do it for ONE year of him? If anything, the team that comes off their pick is going to WANT to have him locked up for a period of time.
