Anyone else getting impatient watching other teams make significant moves or is it just me?

Amateur draft is only like 200 days away! So we have that going for us....

Wait ... how are the Orioles screwing up Bundy? I've been a touch busy, but I haven't noticed anything to get concerned about, since I'm somewhat partial to my local teams. Did I miss something?

They vowed to never let him throw his cutter.

Might be overstating things but that is an incredible out pitch to take away due to illogical notions of the pitch.

I guess I'm not impatient, but that might be because of my expectations, or lackthereof. The problem is, what moves can the Cubs make now?

It seems clear they are trying to drum up a market, any market for Alfonso Soriano. They'll eat money, but they want something somewhat intriguing. I don't think the Soriano market, if there is one, will move until Hamilton comes off the board (with Upton gone, wouldn't surprise me if Jon Daniels decided to sign Hamilton soon, if they can reach an accord).

Marmol's probably going to be a tough move in the near future. I think if Marmol is moved, it's probably an in-season, perhaps June type move, if a team's closer goes down. There's still enough arms out there, and teams are willing to gamble on guys closing.

After that? For all the talk about a top prospect for top prospect swap, that never seemed that realistic this early. Teams tend to hold onto their key guys, and the Cubs key guys are just a little too far away as of now. Garza wasn't a likely move this winter.

There just isn't that much in the hand that Epstein/Hoyer have to play with right now.

They wont let him throw his cutter which is considered his best pitch.

I'm impatient as [expletive], even as I approve of the rebuild, when I see moves like this. My hope is they've got charts, needs, all that stuff, and know that by being patient, they'll make a trade rape or two, late in the offseason. But they've kind of insinuated they didn't have many matches with teams back a little while ago, so I'm not exactly confident.

This time last offseason, we had Ian Stewart, an underrated young starting pitcher and a McDonald's.

Now it's Ian Stewart, two underrated old starting pitchers and a Japanese reliever.

So, about the same? Still plenty of time for the next Rizzo.

Oh that. You know, I didn't have a big issue with that and hadn't thought about it in a long time. I read their defense for it, and it seemed reasonable enough (there was a Rick Peterson interview somewhere that got into issues with the cutter's grip). Certain organizations have certain philosophies.

Is it the right move? I don't know, but there defense for making the move is enough that I can swallow it for now.

damn, another cool trade that didn't involve the cubs

I've seen Bundy a handful of times, and if his cutter is better than that curveball then hoooooweeee

I understand the feeling, but no. I signed on to 2012 & 2013 as rebuilding years so this year is more of the same for me.

2014 is a different story. Win or else.

they should still be making significant moves while rebuilding. rizzo, vizcaino, etc. i think it's fair to be kind of disappointed in the lack of interesting moves so far this offseason, even though it's still early.

Yeah, I do understand feeling disappointed with the offseason so far.

It'd feel better if we'd like spread out Baker and Feldman so that one came during the Winter Meetings or something.

FG's is doing a chat right now, and two of them listed the Cubs as a team who "impressed them the most" this offseason.

The Cubs have quietly addressed much of what they needed to get done. It's just seeing other teams acquire pieces like Bauer and Myers that would fit into our plans so well that makes it sting a bit.

Even if Garza was healthy, the Cubs probably couldn't match what the Rays' offered Myers but you have to think they could have easily matched Gregorius and parts for Bauer.

I am a big fan of Choo and think the Reds did just fine in this deal. But if the D'backs really liked Didi that much and he along with a lesser part or two was enough to get Bauer why not directly deal Didi to the D'backs for Bauer? They could have kept Stubbs and signed one of Bourn/Swisher/Upton (when he was still available) rather than deal for Choo. Seems like adding Bauer, keeping Stubbs and adding one of those OF makes them a better team now (or about as good depending on Bauer's eta) and moving forward.

Because they have a fairly tight budget. Bourn, Swisher or Upton would have cost considerably more per season for more seasons, and they got the Indians to kick in cash on the deal.

Samardzija, Wood, Marmol and cash for Myers, Odorizzi, and Montgomery. Does that get it done?

Barney and Jackson for Bauer?

No chance.

You could make the case that Shields and Samardzija is a wash due to Samardzija's age (3 years younger), his big upside (which in my opinion could be better than what Shields offers), extra year of control, and cheaper cost. Then it becomes a matter of Wood + Marmol + cash vs. Wade Davis
