If we were to trade for Soriano for something of value, would signing Bay as a bounceback candidate at 1-2 mil really be horrible?

It'd be pretty bad. He's basically a replacement level player at this point even if you give him some BABIP credit for last year.

Red Sox General Manager Ben Cherington said Tuesday that the team has used the Patriots as a guide during their offseason. Cherington says that the team is prioritizing versatility in their free agent signings after watching the Patriots make good use of it on the football field.

I think we’ve learned a lesson from the lack of protection in different areas and depth in different areas,” said Cherington, via CSNNewEngland.com. “I guess it’s a little bit of a page out of the Patriots’ book, having guys who can cover different things. It’s important. Seems to me that the teams who get the six-month season and can afford the real droughts, tend to be the ones that have a bunch of guys who can cover different spots. Inevitably, you’re going to have guys out. That has been something we’ve talked about a lot.”

uhhh lol

Yeah, I think the Red Sox are in trouble.

But at least they're spending, you guys.

I can't believe how dumb their fans are to eat that stuff up. Just because your front office says really smart-sounding things to justify their moves doesn't mean you have to believe it, guys.

Edit: I've got a better one.

What an idiot! I'm sure glad the guy who handpicked him to be the heir apparent in Boston isn't choosing the people to run our franchise.

But at 1-2 Mil+incentives:

Best case scenerio: he re-finds himself as a MOH bat, or at least replaces 2012 Soriano production. helps Cubs not be awful.

Worst Case Scenerio:He's horrible and we waste 1-2 MM on a low risk/high reward who's not blocking anyone

Middle range scnerio: he's decent, but not nearly enough to help the Cubs avoid being eliminated by mid June, and we trade him for prospect(s)

And trying. Don't forget, money=effort.

This is as tedious as anything Kyle has ever posted.

FIP/XFIP points to him getting lucky/over performing his real ability.

Then "FIP/XFIP" would be wrong; he's filthy.

He has over 400 MLB innings pitched & less than 350 hits... Not by luck, it's by great pitching.

Ooooohh, fun!

Can we just change your title to "Theo hater"? I don't care if that's really your intention with all this crap you post.

It's amazing how touchy people get about things that are either factual or at least undisputed.

It's factual, undisputed, and irrelevant. Oh no! Theo's replacement isn't as good as Theo was! That proves that Theo is bad or something, because...others aren't as good as him....

The quality of Theo's handpicked replacement is irrelevant to the Cubs when he's also handpicking the guys to put in charge of the Cubs?

A quirk I totally understand. But we all have our crosses to bear, and I've learned to mostly deal with the backflips people will do to justify the Cubs' front office's actions.

By doing backflips to criticize the front office's actions.

Okay, Joe Morgan. He has pedestrian K rates, walks around 3/9IP and allows a lot of balls in play on top of giving up HR at a good rate. His low ERA's definitely point to some luck when you look at his peripherals. If he was striking guys out a much higher percentage then I'd say that the H/IP numbers indicate great pitching are somewhat sustainable. But given what we know about his K/9, BB/9, LOB% and the amount of balls he let's get put into play he's getting more lucky than being "filthy." I'd say his FIP/XFIP is rather correct in assessing him.

What? That Theo handpicked Cherrington and people think Cherrington sucks? Sure the first part is a fact. But there's only one person continually pointing this crap out in every single thread.

And its seemingly all posted with the inferrance that people are blindly in favor of everything Theo does and refuse to accept that he can make a bad decision, or steer us in the wrong direction, and that is not fact at all.

Yep. Completely different motivations, selection options, and different levels of current influence on decisions.

Yeah people were so over the top in praising Theo for the Navarro signing. And it was rediciulous how everyone wanted Cespedes/Darvish/Hyun-Jin and then we didn't get him and the mantra changed to 'Those guys suck anyways, obviously Theo just saved us here'

Theo is in charge of the cubs baseball ops. He's picking guys to help him run the team; those guys aren't running the team in his absence. It's an important distinction to this stupid tangent you've taken us on.

I'm not the one who started the "snarky comments implying which direction we think the team should go" tangent. I'm just the best at it.

The gap between Cabrera and Barney isn't that much when you have the former for 2 years and the latter for 4...

Just like Juan Pierre is the best at grounding out to 2B
