Kirk Herbstreit's Northern Illinois' rant was fantastic.

 

Summarize?

 

Ripped the selection of NIU and the system that is set up that allows them to play despite their resume. Also ripped the cap on two schools from each BCS conference. Noted that NIU lost to Iowa and Kent State lost to Kentucky.

The whole thing would be a lot more intellectually honest if they'd leave Georgia out of it. Georgia played 3 teams with winning records. They lost to two of them and needed 800,000 turnovers from Florida to win the other one.

I agree with you there regarding Georgia. I've never been a fan of Georgia given their weak schedule, I think Texas A&M, LSU and South Carolina are better and more deserving teams.

I am against NIU being in the Orange Bowl. However, I do not feel bad for the BCS. It was because they did not take other non AQ schools in the past who were deserving that the current rules were put into place.

 

Of course the real problem is rankings. Just because a team has 0 or 1 lose does not mean they should be ranked in the Top 25. Just about every person with a vote makes that mistake

Alabama was up 20 with 21 minutes to play at home. I never said they would stop trying, but what's Ole Miss' win probability after that touchdown?

Yeah, I don't think NIU deserves to be there, but I'm fine with the system that allows the to be there. If we didn't have it in place, we wouldn't have gotten games like Boise-OU and TCU-Wisconsin.

NIU doesn't deserve to be in a BCS bowl, but I don't give a [expletive]. The game on Friday night was terrific and I'm pretty happy that this team is going to the Orange Bowl. I don't necessarily agree with the blame being thrust in NIU's direction, as it should really be at the BCS for all of the various qualifications and what not that prompted NIU to grab the last at-large spot. The payday that NIU is going to receive is also going to be quite nice as well.

 

The four team playoff in 2014 is a start, but I won't be 100% happy until a 16 team playoff is instituted. I'm hopeful that happens in the near future.
