Chiefs are going to pass up Joeckel and select Fisher #1.

2* from next door to Ann Arbor without a UM offer (or almost any other). Now #1 pick? Wow.

There's a story going around from NFLN's Gil Brandt that Fisher went 6.5 hours to visit a B1G school during the recruiting process only to see the head coach tell him to enjoy his visit while he went on a golf outing.

The two B1G campuses that are right around 6.5 hours away from Fisher's hometown are Illinois and Wisconsin, coached at the time by, respectively, Ron Zook and Bret Bielema. Interesting.

ETA: Actually Penn State is too, but I don't know that Joe Paterno was much of a golfer.

I thought I read he has no BCS offers.

I don't claim to know much of anything about Fisher but Joeckel proved himself against some of the best DE's in the country while Fisher was playing in the MAC. Oh well, Luke won't last long and will probably end up in a better situation than had he gone to KC.

You take the best player if you're confident in your coaching and scouting. Just because he played against worse opponents doesn't mean he isn't the better player.

Yep. Just Eastern and Central offered.

That level of progression isn't terribly unusual for an Offensive linemen though, right? Not that "MAC offer to #1 pick" is particularly common, but that position(s) more than any other seems to be a recruiting inefficiency. You see 2 and 3 stars littering All-American teams on the OL all the time. One thread over people are banking on Bushrod anchoring the Bears O-line, and he's from Towson.

Exactly. Ryan Clady was also a two-star out of high school and is now arguably the best OT in the NFL. The guy most likely to be picked first amongst Alabama's heralded offensive line group, Chance Warmack, was only a 3-star recruit.

Offensive line seems to be far more projection and coacing based than any other position in football.

And the earlier the good coaching, and scheme(s) you learn, the better. Hence big project OTs in the 7th round, don't frequently pan out, despite level(s) of coaching.

Oh exactly. It's just interesting that it seems to happen almost every year.

Just saw a report that the Dolphins and Browns are talking about a Davone Bess for a 4th round pick swap.

Also, the Pats apparently want a 2nd round pick for Ryan Mallett. I like Mallett more than most, but good luck with that.

He was very scrawny (for O-line) coming out of HS, not anywhere near his current build. For 3 years he was an OLB and punter for the HS team.

This is where I mention that JJ Watt was a 2 star recruit.

Speaking of Watt I am really curious to where Mangus Hunt lands. I really think he might be the steal of the 2nd round.
