Well, I guess this limits their superstar addition to being a 2 or a 3. I like Taj, but I think we may have been in better shape longterm if we had dealt him.

Yeah, now that I think about it, you are probably right. This limits the Bulls being players in 2014 when Deng's contract comes off the books.

I hope playing for that [expletive] Great Britian team was worth it.

it was probably one of the most meaningful moments of his life. it probably gave him a satisfaction unlike one you'll ever feel.

Yeah I can't thing of much in life that would be better than representing your country at the Olympics in your country.

I don't know. It doesn't seem like a bad deal to me. Decent big men in the NBA get paid. When Deng's contract is off the books and Boozer gets amnestied, then only Rose, Taj and Noah will be signed. It seems like they have some room to to maneuver.

Plus, I think you can easily trade Taj's contract if needed. It's really not that much money for a decent big man. The coveted FA that year is supposed to be Kevin Love, so perhaps you don't keep Taj and Noah anyways.

No it doesn't. That's a reasonable contract, so odds are they could trade him if they needed/wanted to.

Thanks for your perspective. Do you have any orginal thoughts of your own?

sounds like its actually a base of 4/32 with incentives needed to bring it to 38

That's a good deal. I think we can land Love rather easily if/when he's a free agent.

Unless Derrick puts on his recruiting hat, I think Kevin Love is just another Bulls free agent fantasy that never comes to fruition.

He might for Love, they are very close.

Love won't be a FA in 2014, right? Of course, as was just mentioned, Taj could be a part of a deal for him. If you had Love/Noah/Rose, you could conceivably add another max contract, if the trade went down after the addition thru FA.

Opt out clause. But true, Taj would probably be gone. Plus you have Mirotic supposedly arriving around then. It could get interesting.

The Bulls are well positioned for 2014. No big commitments. Deng coming off the books. Presumably an amnesty of Boozer (you guys can cry about Reinsdorf it this doesn't happen). I wonder if they could add Love, another big FA, and Mirotic as well to go with Noah and Rose.

Love can't opt out until the summer of 2015. I doubt the Bulls would have had enough money to add Love and another big FA even under that scenario. Rose and Noah are taking up over half the cap in 2014 (unless the cap suddenly goes way up). Add in the cheap players on the roster+Mirotic+cap hold for a first round pick and there probably isn't enough room for something of that magnitude.

So this means they have to shed Deng because a frontcourt of Noah, Taj and Luol is horrendous offensively. the bottom line is boozer is a far better player than taj and although $8mln/yr is about what ok NBA bigs get, it kinda means our gameplan going forward is to get worse.

The bulls FO is taking a #1 seed team and turning them into a #5 seed team. Instead of finding another decent player through the draft or combo of draft and vet min that might replace taj's 20 minutes (and spend elsewhere), you pay taj and play him 32 minutes.

That's a wrong bottom line, friend. He's not just not far better, he's worse.

Horrendous is strong. Noah is underrated offensively. Great hands/passing/transition center. Luol is an above average offensive player when healthy.

Derrick Rose's knee did that and you should understand that this team as it was constructed 6 months ago needed to be blown up anyway.

It's an entirely different matter whether or not you think the Bulls front office is capable of building a championship team around Derrick, but their instinct that they don't currently have one is correct.

All of these moves they've made since last year's playoff exit would be much clearer to understand if they had a complimentary star in place already. They don't, so it's impossible to see where Taj fits in the big picture of the next Bulls contending team. That said, he took less than market value to stay and I'm comfortable he'll live up to the contract.

Luol is fine offensively but definately not "above average" relative to starter level NBA 3s. Noah's offensive game is less limited than I thought but for the most part his contributions offensively are energy put backs, somebody creating something and finding him, and the open 12 footer. Taj's offensive game is energy put backs.

Boozer is a much better player than Taj and Im not sure how you come to a different conclusion. Taj's D is definately better but the difference between the two players offensively is massive.

Boozer's game is feast or famine if that little reverse pivot jumper isn't falling. For some reason he doesn't like to bang any more and doesn't get to the free throw line much (he had like 6 FT attempts in the entire Philly series).

Gibson can do some things on the block, just wish he could knock down a jumper consistently.

Am I strange for thinking it's somewhat plausible for the Bulls to have the second best record in the East? It would involve a lot of things going their way (one thing being health but that's not too likely) but I don't really see anyone in the East who is far and away a better team, aside from the Heat of course.

I mean, it wouldn't matter much if they did get the 2 seed because baring some miracle healing from Rose, this team won't win a title but I think they're better than some are saying.
